Here's today's product complaint. I was looking at my bottle of Purel Hand Sanitizer at work today, and I saw that the label says it gets rid of bacteria on the hands. Hmm....so everyone is using this stuff to help ward of colds and flu, which are viruses. So this stuff is going to help me not get a cold how?? Of course, all it says on the outside is "gets rid of 99.9% of GERMS."

Back to square one. And my antibacterial hand soap.

Funny you mentioned this product. I heard on the radio today that there have been many people in the emergency room who have INGESTED this stuff because of the alcohol content in this stuff. It has over 60 percent of alcohol in the product...HOWEVER!!!!! It is not alcohol like you think, such as the mouthwash products that have alcohol in them. This is RUBBING ALCOHOL in the product and there has been at least one confirmed death from ingesting this stuff. The people saw 60 PERCENT ALCOHOL and since they are alcoholics, they decided to "drink the stuff".

I don't use antibacterial soap, if I can help it, because the stuff irritates my skin. My skin will crack and I'll get cuts. I started getting reactions like that from antibacterial soap about 2-3 years before I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and I'm sure it's connected to the disease. People with RA tend to have issues with dry skin. So I try and stay away from antibacterial soap, and tend to use more traditional stuff like Ivory.

Of course, if I'm in a public restroom and it's in the dispenser, I'll use it. Fortunately, a lot of business around here - including my place of employment - have switched to a different type non-antibacterial liquid soap.

Having said that, I do use the hand sanitizer on occasion, and my skin doesn't react badly to it. In fact, if I have a cut on my hand, it will speed along the healing process.

omg....that stuff tastes awful too. (no, I didn't drink it)

They don't make antiviral claims because the FDA won't let them, however, isopropyl alchol is toxic to the majority of viruses out there.

I don't use the anti-bacterial handwash very often, mainly because I can't stand the strong smell!
