I got the set yesterday, upon unwrapping the box and pulling the cases out I heard one of the discs sliding around inside the case. It was disc 3, I looked on back of the disc and it was scuffed up in a number of places. But so far the disc seems to play OK. It still pisses me off, they need to use better cases for the DVD's instead of these cheap ones that allow the discs to come loose while the sets are being shipped to stores and sent out thru mail order.
One other thing I noticed, when watching JEANNIE OR THE TIGER- the shades of color waver back and forth. It's subtle, but especially noticeable during a scene where Jeannie and her "sister" are talking in the living room. Look at the dark brown wall in the background of that scene, and you'll see what I mean. |

In episode #9 where Tony'e mother visits the following edit takes place:
When she goes to sleep on the sofa Jeannie does the following to try and wake her up: 1. Play a trumpet 2. Play a bass drum 3. Crash two symbols together 4. Fire a canon The part where Jeannie plays the bass drum is missing here. It goes from her playing the trumpet to crashing the symbols. If you look closely after the camera switches from looking at Tony's mom we see Jeannie put the drum sticks down and we can see the bass drum sitting on the floor. Also Tony's mom mentions a drum being banged in her dream. Now I admit this is a 10 second edit at most but still it is an edit. Chad |

I watched that episode, and you are precisely correct. The part where Jeannie beats on the drum is absent from the DVD. Now I would like to know the real reason why Sony would go to the trouble and delete a few seconds from selected episodes. It makes no sense, unless for some reason they don't want the people to have all the episodes uncut. When you look at the box for the third season, it says "the complete third season" which simply means you are getting every episode. It mentions nothing about uncut episodes, so they covered their bases. Those sneaky scoundrels. I wonder which other episodes are chopped like this, MEET MY MASTERS MOTHER is likely not the only one. |

I just read some reviews on amazon.com, and a few people have reported the BOOTSIE NIGHTINGALE episode has a jittery picture thru most of the episode. Throw in the fact that Sony screwed up with the DVD cases and has episode 13 listed on disc 3 when the episode is actually on disc 2. Also include the discovery of a scene chopped from MEET MY MASTERS MOTHER, and it seems this is starting to indicate a rather poor effort by Sony with the IDOJ season three DVD. Perhaps they were rushed to get the DVD's out, but there should have been better quality control and inspection of the set prior to release. The fact that they have deleted a small scene from at least one episode is inexcusable by itself.
And has anyone noticed that they seem to have used the same opening credits for all the episodes? This was the 1967-68 season, the copyright year on the opening titles shows MCMLXVI (1966) which is from season two. And if you listen close, a note gets skipped during the playing of the theme song. This occurs in all the episodes. So apparently they just kept using the same title sequence over and over. Thumbs down to Sony, they really should recall this release, fix the problems, make everything right then reissue it. |

Looks like a sloppy scanning/transfer job on the Bootsie episode, which means that Sony is getting downright careless on its classic TV releases

According to the Internet Movie Database, the My Son The Genie episode marked the first post-Gilligan TV sitcom appearance for Bob Denver

Talked to a friend of mine yesterday who also bought the third season. When he got back from the store and opened the box, disc 2 was missing. So he will have to take the DVD's back to the store and get a replacement. Unreal. The problems just keep on rolling in with IDOJ season three. Sony did a crap job with this set.
Another thing I noticed, take a look at the picture of Barbara Eden/Jeannie on the case that holds discs 1 & 2. The picture looks fake, like it was doctored up or something. Her face looks like it was painted, it doesn't look like an actual photograph. |

I know what you mean about the "fake" Barbara Eden image. It almost looks like they took a "face" from somewhere else and drew the body around it or vice versa. I didn't know about the episode problems. I haven't watched the set yet. But I must say, it is upsetting to find out about the cut with the bass drum. That is a very funny scene and the cut is a poor choice on Sony's part. I would say it is Sony but so many of the studios have screwed up on a dvd set at one point. VEI had syndicated cuts of Kate & Allie on their sets and their delays are a constant habit. Warner issued a complete syndicated season of Mama's Family. Then, there's the whole Carsey-Warner thing with Cosby Show and Roseanne's first season sets. Someone at these companies doesn't think it is such a big deal.
