Question Burning Fat?

Mk. I've been hitting the gym trying to lose some fat (not weight!) but I'm getting no results. Does anyone know any good exercises to get rid of fat in the stomach/hips/thighs/ass region? Should I be watching what I eat as well? I'm lost.

Running/swimming/sit-ups might be a good combination.

You would also need to hit the machines that deal with these areas, as well. I know they have machines that make you work your abdomen and thighs, and would help slim down your hips as well. As for where god slit us... Well, I have no idea.

I hear ya'! I spent all summer swimming an hour a day, riding my exercise bike on its "fan burning" setting for an hour a day, doing 25 sit-ups and push-ups. Ate a balanced, low-cal diet. I wound up not losing any weight/fat whatsoever! But, I keep trying...maybe my heart's getting better if nothing else.

If you're talking about spot reducing of fat, that doesn't work. Although, toning will reduce size. Other exercizes: biking, walking.
If you don't want to lose weight, you're probably not fat. I'm a straight male, and think its sad that a lot of women think they're fat when they're not. a moderate layer of fat looks good - Ex: Gillian Anderson/X-files season 1-3. That plumpness is probably what made her the most downloaded woman of the 90's.

But if you want to have .1% body fat like me, my diet of produce, whole grain and beans will do it.

Then you have no fat to lose, or your eating too much fat or calories.

I know I'm not fat and I don't, like, obsess over my weight. It's just that Danceline tryouts are soon and I want to be in shape so I can look (and feel) better in the uniforms.

I agree, I run every morning no matter what. When I was pregnant I use to power walk everyday instead of running. I think power walking is worst than running JMO. But it kept my legs in great shape and my thighs looked great.

I'm an 18 year old guy, so there's going to be some differences with my age/sex but...at the start of last summer....June 2006 I weighed about 170 pounds. I started playing tennis a LOT, almost every day. I also cut back on about half of what I was eating a day. I also got a job pushing in carts at Meijer in July and by August I weighed about 150. Once the summer was over, I tried running every now and then, lifted some weights, did some sit-ups, and watched not what, but how much I ate. I also went through this stage in July where I didn't have ANY appitite, which helped somewhat. I probably ate in a week what I would eat in two days. Anyway, now that I'm skinny, I've signed up at a gym and have been going there for about a month.

Right now I'm at 142.5 pounds. I just keep excersing and eating smaller portions and I've stayed at 142.5 for the past month. I can also see some abs forming, before it was just a big blob. LOL. Get a pilates video....It will really help.

How are you measuring your body fat to determine if you are losing it. Keep in mind that if you are working out regularly you may actually gain weight but be losing body fat. Muscle tissue actually weighs more than fat and sometimes people get discouraged when they start training because thier weight does not seem to change, however if you go to a gym or wellness center they will be able to measure your lean muscle mass to fat ratio.

If you are happy with your weight and do not want to build muscle and only want to lower your body fat I would suggest more cardio workouts, the link below is helpful to determine what your target heart rate should be when you are working out.

.1% body fat , I am assuming this is a typo or the person who did the test on you did it wrong. Athletic body fat for males averages around 10%, Body builders tend to drop to 4-5% (extremely unhealthy) for very brief periods of time before competing.

Step Aerobics. You mentioned at one point you were taking them. Right, Courtnee? Why not pick up? It's an excellent way.

We do two sessions of body fat testing to see how much body fat we lose/muscle we build at the beginning and the end of each semester. Those step aerobics really help out in that.
