Post The Young Ones...

Does anyone have any information on the current status of the four main actors from the Young Ones?

Nigel Planer (Neal)
Rik Mayall (Rik)
Christopher Ryan (Mike)
Ade Edmondson (Vyvyan)

I had heard about ten years ago that one of them had died? Is that true or just some rumor?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks!!!

If you're a fan of Ade Edminson and Rik Mayall you should watch 'Bottom' cos they are both in that. It's made by the BBC and it's on all the time over here so you should be able to find a station that shows it. The 2 of them actually made a full length movie version of 'Bottom' - it was called 'Guest House Paradiso'. It was pretty crap though.

I'd like to see reruns of this show. My parents used to watch it on MTV when they showed it in the 80's and thought it was a funny show.

Cool

Well, they are all still alive so that's THAT rumour put to bed.
Rik and Adrian continue with "Bottom" global domination - they are just about to start another UK Tour with the stage show I believe.
Christopher Ryan has always been involved in theatre work. He was also seen in "Bottom" as Dave Hedgehog and appeared in "Absolutely Fabulous" too.
Nigel Planer is a bit of a mystery though - not sure what he's up to these days. Probably still trying to get rid of the 'Neil' tag! He'll never do it, it will be with him for the rest of his days!

Thanks, everyone!! Glad to hear that the chaps are still doing well.

By the way, for those here in the U.S., I caught a six hour marathon of The Young Ones one night on BBCAmerica.

I keep checking the schedule to see if they show either of the series. They showed Series II last month.

I haven't been able to determine if they will be showing them on a regular basis or not. I hope they do.

I originally caught them back in the 1980s on MTV (just like Jenny said) and when I caught them again last month, I was rolling on the floor laughing my head off at least once during each and every episode.

I think this is the only show that has ever been able to do that to me!!!

I love this show, my favorite episode is "BORING" The best part is when Neil is digging his grave and he tells Mike "I don't think I'll kill myself today Mike, but maybe I'll do it tomorrow." My sister and I still quote that now and again.

I have all of the episodes on tape - my favorite is "Bambi".

It's one of those shows where you can have fun spotting actors from other shows. There were so many cameo appearances of other British comedy favorites.

Default Alice in Wonderland

Just another thing about Chris Ryan, he was in Alice in Wonderland, that ABC made for tv movie...he was one of the Royal Gardeners painting the roses red. I didn't even know he was in it, and it took me a second to figure out that was him when he came on screen Pretty good movie, and Jason Flemyng is in it! (I think he's cute...)

I really love this show. I saw it way back in High Schoolwhen MTV had the reruns. My friends and I used to trade tapes.

Rick - Vivian, where did you get that Howitzer?
Vivian - Found it.

Cool

Chris Ryan has made guest appearances in several UK sitcoms, including One Foot In The Grave (several different characters), Only Fools and Horses (one of the Driscoll Brothers in Rodney's Wedding ep), and Absolutely Fabulous (recurring throughout as Marshall, Edina's first ex-husband).

I'm another person who got hooked on the Young Ones during its run on MTV! I loved this show!!! I wish it would be broadcast on BBC/America again! Does anyone remember that song that Neil recorded, "Hole in My Shoe" or something?

Yeah, it was "Hole In My Shoe", a cover of the hit by Traffic.

It got to number two in the singles chart here - lol

Supergrass was one of the films made by The Comic Strip in the 1980's.

Edmonson, Mayall and Planer were all regulars in the Comic Strip as were Dawn French & Jennifer Saunders.
