Hey guys, new to writing on this board but always been reading...about a year ago I did some old newspaper digging at a library here and came across an article regarding Angela Hammond's abduction. It had stated in fact that she was preganant with Rob Shafer's baby. On another intersting note I always thought that serial killer Kenneth McDuff's partner fit the description almost exactly to that of the Hammond suspect - and hoping that he wasn't granted parole as stated somewhere here a while ago.
Lastly, as much as we love UM, I have concluded that the show did a horrible job of reporting and missing out important pieces to a story such of that of Angela Hammond being pregnant as well as others. While I did my newspaper research, I looked up an unsolved mysteries case that took place down my street many years ago. It was the first victim of the mail bomber that hid his bomb in a cookbook mailed to someone that was beloved in my community. Anyways, I found out that the person who sent this package had sent letters to the woman's home in the days that followed stating his intent to do the same thing to everyone of the womans family. Unsolved Mysteries never reported this...anyways sorry for the lengthy post..look forward to talking to all of you! |

Interesting twist, if it's true. Do you have any links to the newspaper articles talking about Angela's pregnancy, or did you get it all off of microfiche?
Perhaps a reason that UM didn't want to disclose the information regarding Angela's pregnancy is because they thought it may be too "sensational" for the early 1990's. Was the pregnancy confirmed by Angela's family or Rob Schafer or was it just speculation? In any case, it's an interesting twist and may serve to prove as a potential "motive" for Rob to be involved in Angela's disappearance. As I said in a different thread, though, I highly doubt Rob was involved. |

Thanks, Notanewsbroadcast! That's very strange that just a few hours after I asked on another thread whether Angela Hammond was pregnant and wondering whether I had hallucinated the whole incident I saw on the Oprah show that someone comes along as posts this. I'm just glad to know I'm not crazy. Concerning this topic, anyway.
Btw, I didn't bring this up to implicate her boyfriend, as I never thought he was guilty either. |

Yeah, those innocent early '90s.
I guess the reference is how old you were and what you were doing at the time. Anyway, I'm much more interested in the zip gun bomber. Were the specifics of those letters made available, or simply that they were sent? It contradicts info in an article I read on the case. http://www.cnn.com/US/9606/21/zip.gun.bomber/ "But investigators still don't have a clue who the killer is, or what motivates him. The culprit has never sent a message to a victim, to police, or to the news media." That case strangely never earns as much scrutiny as I would expect. I guess there has not been a recent event but he's show bizarre patience, only a handful of packages between '82 and '96. |

Yes, I had read the same thing about Angela being pregnant. I had went to the Kansas City Star website and researched their archives. I had to pay for the articles so I only choose about 4 or 5 and it was mentioned more than once. Supposedly she was about 4 months along. This happened about 150 miles from where I live and I was a freshman in college at the time, I remember seeing this on the local news and it really freaked me out. How awful Rob's car gave out. I mean, if it hadn't she probably would have been rescued. I can't believe the show didn't say she was pregnant. How traumatic for Rob, not only did he lose his fiance, he lost his baby too. Does anyone know how Rob and her family are doing now? I think he went to train for the military not long after her abduction.

There has to be someoene in that area that noticed that pickup truck with the fish decal.. They said there were over 1,400 models like that in Missouri but how many were green and had a fish decal. I cannot believe that there is hardly any clues to this dissapearance. It will be 16 years next month..(April 4, 1991)

This message board has made me hate this case. This, and the Larry Dickens case.

if only there were cell phones back then!
what really would have happened if the guy's car hadn't died? it would've been a long high speed chase? would the guy have caught up to the kidnapper and bashed his car in? maybe he had a gun and would've shot Angela? how did they know exactly which car and model and the year to look for? they are just going by angela's phone call. would she know the exact car she was looking at? i'm sure the kidnapper hid his truck for many years or took down the mural fish thing and re-painted the truck another color. |

Rob seemed like the aggressive type so he probably would have tried to ram the car. Although that puts Angela in potential danger, from a crash or anything the guy decides to do. I guess you hope a police car notices the high speed chase and joins in but on a rural road that's not high percentage.
Good question about knowing type of car. When I'm not in the market for a car I tend to lose track of the latest makes and models so I know darn well I wouldn't be reliable in that regard, especially with American cars. The guy probably changed the mural so the fish was jumping back into the water. |

Who's to say that the abductor/murderer didn't pull an "Eaton," and bury the incriminating pickup truck?
I'm just sayin... |
