Question Does Father Ted count as a Britcom?

My roommate is now COMPLETELY and utterly addicted to Father Ted now that BBC-America is showing it on Friday nights.

Being on the BBC, does it count as a Britcom and has anyone else seen it? And does anyone else agree with me that Dougal needs to BLINK once in a while?!?

Yeah, it MUST count as a Britcom!
'Father Ted' was one of the best sitcoms in recent years. Sadly only three series were made because of the sudden death of Dermot Morgan.

Yeah, Dougal DOES need to blink!

Cool

Yeah, my roommate told me about that. Shame, it's really funny to watch Friday nights, but I know it's only gonna last so long til I've seen them all.

I've already gotten to my roommate by yelling "DRINK! (*pause*) What? ...FECK OFF!" When she tries to do something serious on her computer, and involves me. I'm evil occasionally like that.

She's DYING to meet Dougal in person, but if Aroal (that his name?) knows what's good for him, he'll stay as far away from her as possible!

LOL!
Dougal is played by Ardal O'Hanlon by the way. He does a pretty good stand-up act too.

What the heck is a series?
Unless you mean there were 3 diff'rent shows made.
I also noticed that some people here spell program like this:
PROGRAMME
Some people need to check the dictionary...

Cool

A series is a a set of episodes. And "programme" IS correct in the UK. A program in the UK is something that runs on a computer.
You say tomayto, I say tomarto...let's call the whole thing off?

Us crazy Brits huh?

Oh....we call our 'set of episodes' here "seasons".A series is the whole show together.Like if a show fran from 1976 to 1985 1976-77 would be it's first season.1984-85 would be its last. But some shows start mid season like Three's Company which started on March 15,1977.Then the early 1977 season is called the first season or the spring season. Then 1977-78 would be the second season.Nothing like some good American TV trivia hah?!

You know, I think I prefer seasons to series!

Thanks for clearing that up, JT!

Cool

It counts as a Britcom as it was made by Hat Trick, a British TV company, for Channel 4 - a British TV station. But the writers and all (I think) of the main actors are Irish, and it's set in Eire, so I guess it has dual nationality.

I LOVE father Ted, I have seen every episode at least once. I am glad they ended the series and did not try to replace Father Ted. That would have ruined it!

I would indeed classify Father Ted as a Britcom. I really like this show. Sad to hear that Dermot Morgan passed away...

Graham Linehan & Arthur Mathews had planned s3 to be the final series - Father Ted was another great show that raised a cast of previously relatively unknown actors to household names. The plas was that by ending the series at the top everyone involved would then go on to great success in something new. Tragically this was not to be.
