Afraid to Ask - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Are there questions or topics you feel like asking anyone (most-preferrably online) but were afraid to ask? I have been thinking a lot about nosy-type (well, not personal nosy but more like knowledge-seeking nosiness) questions to a couple of people around here. I am just afraid of asking them because I don't want them to feel offended in any way or anything. However, the curiosity in me just wants to ask. Grrrr....

Maybe this thread can be like a question/answer of asking anyone or any particular person a question that you were always afraid of asking? Remember, I am not talking about personal/intruding nosy questions....just questions about stuff they have been through. Gosh, I can't describe this well without saying what one of those questions is. I hope I am making sense.

She actually has, yes, but they're always group pictures, and it's hard to find her (I've actually never been able to locate her in any of her pics). She's sneaky like that.

Mona has actually never posted her picture on the boards. At least not a picture of her as an adult. She has posted a few childhood pictures though. If anyone is curious as to what Mona looks like, I can tell you that she is really pretty.

Mona, my advce would be to just ask what it is that you want to ask. If a person doesn't feel like answering, then they just don't have to.

Wow....I didn't realize this thread would turn into a "me" thread. How embarrassing! I was hoping this would've been a generalized thread to anyone who had questions towards anyone.

Anyway, yeah, as Allison and Mike have mentioned, I have just never been comfortable posting pictures of me on the internet. I've had online access since April 1996, and I have just always been like that. I can't stand the thought of lurkers just looking at my pics. Therefore, I only post them in enclosed areas where I know exactly who looks at my pictures. Places like LJ, for instance. I like to know who exactly looks at my pics.

Yes, I have posted childhood pics of me because children are more difficult to recognize, and I have posted two group pictures of me where I am surrounded by people.

Thanks for the encouragement, Mike. My question is that I have always been interested in ASL (American Sign Language), so then I am also interested in various communication patterns towards the deaf community but was too shy or always afraid of offending anyone. It's a dead giveaway, so that's why I was hesitant of posting this straight out. Now I am going to feel even more embarrassed once I hit the "Post" button. Well, there you have it.... I am just super curious how the communication goes without a signer on hand and other things as well.

Now I can die of embarrassment...

I'm kind of confused by what you're asking, though, it's not really clear what you're trying to ask.

The deaf community is, well, *sigh* I don't like to associate myself with it. Too many bad memories. If you don't meet certain criteria, pretty much everybody hates you. For example, if ASL was not the first language you learned when you were really young, you get a LOT of backlash for it. Believe me, I know... My first language was SEE (Signed Exact English), and I was always looked down upon for that, even though I learned ASL as a young child too.

There is a deaf liberal arts university in Washington DC, by the name of Gallaudet University. You ought to read this article about 'em that was in Time magazine three months ago...

Gives you a good idea of what happens if you are deaf and get involved in the deaf community somehow. Heh.

I prefer SEE, being that it is a more grammatically correct form of sign language- ASL is all about the visuals. Grammatical structure isn't a pressing issue, which bothers me (journalism major here

).

If it's just a bunch of deaf people with no hearing people present, no need for an interpreter. But if it's a mixed crowd of deaf/hearing people with no interpreter present... Well, I cannot stress the importance of having pen and a notebook on hand. I get along just as well w/ having that on hand, being I do a lot of writing anyway. So it's second nature to me.
