I voted "no" and here's why:
1.) Florida's husband's name was Henry on "Maude", yet he was named James on "Good Times." 2.) There was never any mention of Florida ever being Maude's maid, nor of Florida and James (Henry) ever living in Harlem. "Good Times" firmly established that the Evans family had lived in Chicago without ever having lived elsewhere. 3.) Calling "Good Times" a spin-off of "Maude" is not incorrect, but technically, they took a character from another series and created an entirely new backstory without regard for how it would contradict what had been establised on "Maude." 4.) In an interview I read about the creation of the series, Eric Monte and Mike Evans (yes, Lionel from "The Jeffersons") had not conceived the show as a starring vehicle for Esther Rolle. They took their spec script to Norman Lear and he gave it back to them with some notes and ideas of his own. It was Lear's idea to structure the series around the character of Florida. |

There are at least 5 threads of this same topic.
And those 5 threads are the most posted ones on GOOD TIMES.

Someone asking you your opinion on whether Good Times is a spinoff of Maude is like asking a 14 year old Girl who has the the best NBA player in the last 10 years. |

Solomon, there is no need to say that. That is her opinion. You can't make people agree with you. If you want to continue to think that the show is not, then you can. I respect the fact that you don't get influenced by others, but you stand on something that you believe and for that, I will not insult you. I just say let this be bro.
