Default UM Disclaimer

Hello,

I'm new to the site and have been a HUGE fan of UM since it debuted. I was trying to randomly think of the disclaimer in the beginning of the show the other day, and was wondering if I have this right:
"This show is about Unsolved Mysteries. Whenever possible, the actual family members and police officials have participated in recreating the events. What you are about to see is not a news broadcast"

Is that right? I feel like I'm missing a sentence. It's great to be a part of this community and see that there are plenty of UM fans out there that are as obsessed as I am.

It looks right to me. The only thing I can't explain is how the voice that read that switched from male to female over time...

Change the word "show" to "program" and you're just about there...

AUGH. As usual, Dislimb, you are so right. I can't believe I forgot that!

Always some mundane detail...

Welcome to the board! I actually taught the disclaimer to my daughter when she was 5 and she still remembers it. She also knows where Judy Himes is...

If I remember correctly, I believe the man who originally voiced the disclaimer (his voice was almost as creepy as Robert Stack's) died this past year.

Shoot, I can't believe I missed a word. It's like I failed a citizenship test or something. I think the lifetime woman's voice sounded better anyways. It's a good contrast to R. Stack.

The Lifetime woman is still around-she does similar voice overs for other shows and commercials for other syndicated programs. Whenever I hear her,
I stop what I'm doing for a second.

The original UM disclaimer guy was Danny Dark. He died in 2004 at age 65 of an pulomonary embolism. In case you'd like to put a face with that great voice here is his picture:

did he really die of a pulmonary embolism or was his death more sinister *cue slow piano-esque UM clip*. God, I wish they came out with a UM soundtrack. I would love to drive around at night with my windows down blaring crazy *update* music.

AUGH. I hate the Update music! (Mainly, it's only because it scares the crap out of me... but I think that's why it's so spooky.)

Did UM put those words on the screen with the U and M capitalized? At that point it's a description, not the proper name of the program, so they should be lower case.

In the original disclaimer (with the male announcer,) I think U and M are NOT capitalized. Does anyone have a screenshot of the ORIGINAL disclaimer (not the pink one used in later years.)

It always used to make me jump when those three purple bars came across the screen from teh bottom right corner with that swoosh noise. Talk about getting spooked!
