Remembering Freddie

Today marks the 30th anniversary of Freddie’s last appearance. I have been thinking about Freddie’s segment on the Inaugural ball for the past couple of days, because as we all know that nine days later, he passed away. Throughout the day, I have been listening to Freddie’s appearance at the Jimmy Carter Presidential inaugural celebration. My emotions have been mixed. Some filled with sadness, love, and wonder, as I continued to think about Freddie on that special day. Hearing his speech, full of promise, hope and humor, only had me thinking. What this talented young man had in store in the future? Yet to only be cut short nine days later.

Back then in 1977 I remember the newspapers and magazines were showcasing Freddie. He was going to appear in that ball. We were so happy for him because it was a big deal to be seen with the President of the United States. We were cheering him on.

My friend Arlo the singer was at that inaugeral ball. I asked him if he met Freddie there & all about it. He said he never met Freddie there but he did see him perform there. He said tho that most folks were half drunk & not really paying that much attention to him from what he could remember. He was probably one of the few really paying attention to Freddie. I wonder if people not paying attention to him then may have caused him to become more down in his last day. WIsh he could've met Arlo. He & Arlo would been great together...
