Default Celebrity Deaths...Murder, Suicide & other untimely deaths

Ok, we got the obvious, O.J. Simpson killing his ex-wife and her friend, Robert Blake who got away with murdering his wife, and currently waiting trial for the murder of Lana Clarkson (2003) Phil Spector.

Murder, suicide, accidental deaths and other scandals have affected Hollywood and its celebs. So let's begin:

Blonde beauty Jean Harlow was married to director Paul Bern. He committed suicide two months after their marriage. What is haunting is the home in which Mr. Bern committed suicide, was later purchased in 1968 by celebrity hair stylist Jay Sebring, who was later murdered in 1969 along with Sharon Tate and several others by the Manson Family members.
Jean Harlow died at age 26 of kidney failure.

Rudolph Valentino died in 1926 of peritonitis at the age of 31. So young. Many women committed suicide when he died.

Carl Switzer aka Alfalfa from "Our Gang" series was shot and killed in 1959 over a $50 debt he owed. He was 33.

Clara Blandick who played Auntie Em in The Wizard of Oz committed suicide by suffocating herself by placing a plastic bag over her head in 1962.

The three stars of REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE all died tragic deaths. Actor Sal Mineo was stabbed to death at the age of 37 in his carport. Natalie Wood later drowned in Santa Catalina waters in 1981. James Dean was killed when he crashed his car in 1955.

Didn't Phil Hartman's wife kill him a few years ago?

That was incredibly sad, she was suffering from severe mental illness as I recall.

For Natalie Wood. I believe she was PUSHED off the boat not 'fell'. I don't believe that for a minute.

Anyway enough of my little rant for a second...

Florence Lawrence(slient flim actress)-Killed herself in her '40's by eating ant paste.

Gig Young(movie actor)-Killed his wife then killed himself in 1978.
Dominque Dunne(Movie actress)-Was murdered by her boyfriend John Sweeney in 1982.

There's so many others but my mind is a blank.

Kerry Adkisson, a.k.a. Kerry von Erich, (1993), professional wrestler, gunshot wound to the chest
Mike Adkisson, a.k.a. Mike von Erich, (1987), professional wrestler, overdosed on the tranquilizer Placidyl

John Lennon was murdered in 1980. He was 40 years old.

Selena was murdered by her assistant in 1995. She was 24 years old.

John Belushi overdosed on heroin and cocaine (speedball) in 1982. John predicted his own death several months before he died by declaring in an interview, "I just can't stop destroying myself. I am going to die young."

Oh yeah, the Von Erichs. David Von Erich died as well, but I don't think he took his own life. The whole family had problems. There is only one member that is still surviving. (Kevin Von Erich)

Marvin Gaye's father killed him, I can't forget that.

I was going to mention GIg Young, on his honeymoon he strangled his wife, than shot himself. In all of his movies he was always so sweet and charming, but from what I hear he was a rotten husband. As Elizabeth Montgomery (Samantha Stevens) who was married to him in the 50's testified too, apparently he abused her multiple times. And was a heavy boozer.

I wonder what would make him kill his wife then himself?

Andy Gibb (5th March 1958 - 10th March 1988) - he died of a heart infection.

Maurice Gibb (22nd December 1949 - 12th January 2003) - he died after surgery for a twisted intestine. I think he had a heart attack during surgery as well.

Karen Carpenter (2nd March 1950 - 4th February 1983) - she had a heart attack, which many believe to be because of her anorexia - although Wikipedia says that this may not have been the case.

Steve Irwin (22nd February 1962 - 4th September 2006)

Buddy Holly (7th September 1936 - 3rd February 1959) - he died in a plane crash

Elvis Presley (8th January 1935 - 16th August 1977) - he died of a heart attack

George Harrison (24th February 1943 - 29th November 2001) - he died of cancer.

River Phoenix (23rd August 1970 - 31st October 1993) - he died of an accidental drug overdose. He took the same as John Belushi - a speedball. He was supposedly given it by a friend of his in the bathroom of the Viper Room.

Pete Duel of Alias Smith and Jones committed suicide also, as did the original
superman George Reeves. And one of the most famous was Marilyn Monroe.

Freddie Prinze kills self...ruled suicide, later ruled accidental shooting due to his mental health at the time (divorce, drug use)...he was 22 when he died in 1977.

Charles Boyer, famous french actor, considered one of the movie screen's greatest lovers. He made an appearance in I LOVE LUCY. He committed suicide by taking an overdose of Seconal, two days after his wife of 44 years died in 1978. He was 78 years old. Coincidentally his son Michael killed himself in 1965 at the age of 21.

Lana Turner's teen daughter, Cheryl, killed Lana's boyfriend Johnny Stompanato with a butcher knife in 1958. It was considered justifiable homocide as Cheryl was protecting her mother's life.

Actor Jack Cassidy, father of David Cassidy (Partridge Family) and ex-husband of Shirley Jones, was killed in his penthouse when it went up in flames in 1976. He was 49. His cigarette and his drinking were to blame for the fire.

Ritchie Valens, along with the Big Bopper died with Buddy Holly in that infamous plane crash that Sharop above mentioned.

Kurt Cobain (lead singer of Nirvana) committed suicide (self-inflicted gun shot) in April of 1994. He had been depressed and contemplating suicide for so long (even hinting at it in many of his songs) and was a known heroin abuser. It was a complete shock to me, though It still saddens me to think of it.

Another one is Chris Farley (well-known comedian and actor)...he died in 1997 of a drug overdose as well (it was morphine mixed with cocaine, I believe).

I also forgot to mention singer Aaliyah died at the age of 22 in a plane crash on August 25th, 2001.

www.findadeath.com has a lot of celebrity deaths listed. Be warned, though--some pages have actual post-mortem pictures, many of which are pretty disturbing. I saw Chris Farley's page once and it was pretty gruesome
