Default Great sitcoms are becoming a thing of the past

It's sad to see the King cancelled. For me it was the only funny sitcom still on the air. A great sitcom is a thing of beauty. When it's done right, it truly is art.

Most modern sitcoms are just not funny and way too raunchy -- you know, people in and out of bed with everybody. The KoQ was funny with out having to do that. It's sobering to think that there's little likelyhood of new sitcoms coming a long that you don't have to take a bath after watching them.

The only comfort is most of the great sitcoms of the past are either on DVD or very likely to be on DVD. But still, it would be nice to be hopeful that some truly funny new shows would coming down the pike. Frankly, I'm not encouraged. That why it's particularly sad to see the KoQ cancelled.

My whole family watches King of Queens and we also hate to see it end. It
hasn't been on hardly any this season but I read there would be some more
episodes in the spring. Sure hope so.

I too am sad that the King of Queens is ending. But look on the bright side, there are still 7 more laugh filled shows coming, so it's not over yet.

The King of Queens is the last link to the classic sitcoms of the past from The Honeymooners to Seinfeld. We'll probably get another great sitcom at some point, but who knows how long it may take.
Reality shows have killed quality TV. The networks don't want to spend the money or make the effort when it's so much easier to just make junk when junk sells. They just don't care or have any pride anymore. If you compare the network schedules to what they were in the '50s, '60s, and '70s the drop in quality is staggering. Even after those great periods there were still some great shows like Seinfeld once in a while. The networks now seem to have no pride about themselves or what they sell anymore. Quality means nothing to them at all.

I agree. I still have George Lopez and According to Jim to enjoy.

I know . . when I moved I got cable but didn’t realize I couldn’t watch one channel and record another channel at the same time. I toyed with the idea of upgrading, but since there’s nothing so great on anymore . . .

I b'lieve so, sadly. On the other hand, back when "Seinfield" was talking about ending, everyone said that was the end of sitcoms. The FRIENDS came along.

Ultimately, I don't think it's possible to kill the sitcom. Oh, you can beat it down and you can sap its energy, but never kill it. (kinda like cancer..hmm) So, although King of Queens shall be mourned, let's not mourn the entire genre with it.
