Why Do Blacks Destroy Their Neighborhoods?

Blacks destroyed their neighborhoods during the Watts riots when Martin Luther King died. Blacks destroyed their neighborhoods when Rodney King was beat up by the police. Our basketball courts at the parks are always messed up. The nets on the rims are always torn up or we don't have any nets at all on the rims. There's always graffiti sprayed on the walls in our neighborhoods. There's always a bunch of broken bottles and glass on the ground and litter everywhere on the ground in our neighborhoods. Why is that? I've been to white neighborhoods before and they have nets on their basketball hoops at the park. Their parks are always clean. Why are we so damn destructive in our neighborhoods?

I don't know. What bugged me back in '92 was of all the neighborhoods to destroy and you are mad at white people, why are you destroying YOUR OWN?! That made zero sense.

I do get tired of seeing people standing on the corner trying to sell somebody something. People are afraid to walk in their own neighborhood. It's funny you brought this topic up Isiah, beause recently, my brother and my mother were riding through the hood. They were at a stop light, and they heard gun shots in broad daylight and they both ducked down inside the car. No one should be exposed to this, especially my mother. No one got hit or anything. But this goes to show you how ignorant people are and has no reguard for life. Hell, I can't even ride through my old neighborhood I grew up in without the drug dealers trying to sell me some weed while I am in my car. All I have to do is give them eye contact and they throw up a smoking signal.

You could replace BLACKS with WHITES and have just as valid a question. Check out a white trash neighborhood sometime...dilapidated houses, crappy looking parks, junk/dead cars as far as the eye can see...looks just as bad as graffiti.

Well Its a way to express anger and to keep fighting in what they believe in. In some situations you really can blame them like when MLK was shot. African Americans were just so angry.

Regarding the riots...

First of all, they weren't "ignorant." Second of all, it wasn't their neighborhood.

For several years before the riots, the black community was seen as a group of strangers in their own home. They were refused service and mistreated in local shops, and because of racial profiling, they were constantly arrested simply for being black.

At the time, Compton, Watts, South Central L.A., and North Long Beach were generally seen as "black" neighborhoods, but white men predominately owned most of the homes and local businesses. They were tired of being treated as second class and unworthy---the riots were an act of frustration, not an act of ignorance. I bet if white men were doing this, they would have the "riots" the "1992 Revolt" instead.

For the last four years I have been working closely with people from Compton and South Central, and to honest with you, it angers me when people treat them as clueless uncivilized neanderthals. From my own experience, they people who live there are generally hard working and of a high moral fiber. It's a shame that the few thugs and dimwits are the ones getting the spotlight.

What many of you outside of Southern Cal don't get, is that to many, Compton is like a glimmer hope. It is that rare city in So Cal, in which a hard working blue collar man, making an honestly can finally afford a home. Sure their lawns may not be perfectly manicured or given the "designer" look that so many others cities in L.A. possess, but we shouldn't knock them down for that.

I seriously doubt that. Many predominately white Europeon Nations, have had riots in recent history, (France being one of the most recent), and they were always called just that, riots. The only people I ever hear using the word revolt, are the participants involved in this sort of behavior. Revolt is a word I see alot of in history books, and was used back in the early 1900's and earlier, but I rarely hear that word used today.

You do make alot of other really good points though, which are very thought provoking, but as far as the whole thing about what this would be called if it were white men doing it, I disagree with you wholeheartedly on that. I don't think race would make any difference in that situation.

That was within the muslim and African communty in the suburbs of Paris. France may be predominantly white, but Paris and Ile de France are pretty much a melting pot of everything.
