I have had 3 people say this in the past month. They said that the heavier you are the older you look, like Beyonce. My friend said now that Beyonce lost 20 pounds for the Movie Dreamgirls, she looks Younger-lol Does anyone think this sounds Stupid?

I think it's true, and throw a balding head in and it adds years too. Take two 35 year old guys. Have one in shape with a full head of hair and the other overweight and balding and you'll see who looks more youthful.

I dont know...I can see how being in shape and slimming down could make someone look (and feel) younger..but i dont think thats always the case.
im on the small side in general- but i think i actually look younger when i gain a little weight because my face fills in some, whereas a narrower more angular face tends to to look older. |

Physicia Rashad has gotten heavier since her Claire Huxtable days but she doesn't look like she's going to be turning 60 next year! She still looks youthful.

I think it various. I have a friend who recently gained weight and you can only tell by her face. She looked like she did when we were in highschool and it's been 6 years since we've graduated.

It depends. Weight can make an older person look better. My friend's mother is in her 70s. She's heavy but has no wrinkles. She claims the extra weight in her face fills in the wrinkles. There's those elderly people, especially women, who look old because they're frail. I really like Mary Tyler Moore, but for a while, she was so thin that it made her look older. I saw her on Letterman a couple of years ago. I haven't seen a recent picture though.

I kind of think it's true. I'm overweight now. I have lost 30 lbs. I think in pictures where I still had that 30lbs I looked older. I'm still trying to lose more.

I think it depends on the person. My mom is 52 and she's plus size, yet she still looks so young. Her skin has no wrinkles and everybody thinks she's younger than she really is. I guess it runs in the family. I'm 23 and sometimes people still think I'm in high school (I hate when ppl think that!) but I'm also not plus size (not even close!).
Then again there's also some really skinny people who look much older from smoking all the time. |

I think in general it's true, but I think there are individual exceptions.

My mom lost about 20 pounds and she thinks she looks older because of the weight she's lost in her face.

Poor Mary Tyler Moore. When the show went to Nick at Nite in the 1990s, and they had a marathon ( Mary-Thon! ) I could see how she aged every year she was on the show --rather, she displayed a marked difference in looks for every year of her series. She has been quoted regretting having worn a fall ( a long hairpiece ) on the first season. But I thought she looked so young and glamorous! I thought she looked older and less pretty the next year, with shorter hair --but it wasn't just the hair, it was her figure, too. She was more athletic looking the first year ( check her out in a tennis dress in one ep ), and by the last year, she looked a lot like how my figure looks this year --dumpy and out of shape. but then she shaped up again for the film Ordinary People, or so it seemed. And got a new curly hairdo, too. I also thought Valerie Harper looked much prettier with longer hair --but in those days, stupid hairdressers convinced women to cut their hair, telling, "no, no! long hair looks OLDER!" No it does NOT! :
