Question Irene Vernon vs. Kasey Rogers: Favorite Louise Tate?

It seems every time I read about recasts on Bewitched, it always asks who is your favorite Darrin, or Gladys, etc. But one recast that doesn't seem to get mentioned much is Louise. She didn't have nearly as prominent or flashy a role as others, so that's probably why.

I did like both, and I think it's an even trade. Having said that, however, I'm going to give the edge to Irene Vernon, Louise #1. She played a very important part in the touching first season ep "And Something Makes Three" and was never afraid to toss some cutting barbs Larry's way (and he always deserved them, too!). Ms. Vernon had a great delivery, and after Bewitched she quit acting, went into real estate and moved to Florida before passing on in 1998. Now Kasey Rogers is gone too. Bless their hearts, they both made Louise fun to watch...

I liked each Louise, each actress brought something different to the character. I'd give the slight edge to Kasey, since I've seen more of her in the color episodes. She had fond memories of being on the show and shared them with the fans on interview shows.

Here's some interesting info I found on Irene Vernon:

Irene Vernon
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Irene Vernon (January 16, 1922 — April 21, 1998) was an American actress.

Vernon was born Irene Vergauwen in Mishawaka, Indiana. Her career began with small uncredited roles in 40s movies. Vernon ended her movie career in 1952, but during the 1950s, she moved over to television roles.

Throughout the early 50s, Vernon guest starred in shows such as Fireside Theatre, The Lone Ranger, Danger, Flight, and The Donna Reed Show. It wasn't until 1964 that Vernon got the best role of her career. Vernon was cast as Louise Tate on the hit television series Bewitched. Vernon held the role until 1966. However, after writer Danny Arnold was fired from the series, the producers, actress Elizabeth Montgomery and Montgomery's husband, William Asher, pressured Vernon, due to Vernon's friendship with Arnold, to leave the show, although the official reason given was that Vernon's husband was ill.[citation needed]

The role of Louise Tate was taken over by Kasey Rogers in a same character, different actor situation.

Irene Rosenberg (as she was known at the time of her death) died on April 21, 1998, in South Bend, Indiana at the age of 76.

Default Irene Vernon for me

I always thought Irene Vernon was so attractive. I really liked her best as Louise Tate.

They were both good actresses, but since Kasey was in more episodes she
stands out more so I'll pick her.

Tough to choose, but if I had to I would say Irene. She seemed to be a perfect "fit" for the part.

They both did so well in that role. Growing up I saw only the color episodes, so naturally I'm fond of Kasey as well.

Clearly, the Louise Tate recast was the best and smoothest of all the Bewitched recasts. I appreciated Irene Vernon's sarcasm and Kasey Rogers' cheerfulness. Each actress put a memorable spin on Louise.

I think I'm joining to change my vote here - I've been watching the Kasey Rogers episodes again and she was much more warm and animated in the role. So I'm going to choose Kasey Rogers as my favorite Louise (no offense at all to Irene Vernon).

I thought Irene's Louise was more of a friend to Sam than Kasey's Louise.

I'm not sure which actress played this Louise Tate, but in the episode where Sam & Darrin follow Larry & Louise around the hotel, trying to prevent Larry from breaking his leg - both Larry & Louise were hilarious. Even Louise was getting mad at Sam & Darrin, for not leaving them alone.

That was Kasey Rogers playing Louise. The episode is "Bewitched, Bewildered and Infuriated", and it aired in the third season. I agree, that was a very funny episode.
