Default OK TV Researcher, Let's Talk

Fine, you say you want to talk to anyone who was in high school at least when TC was on the air ....lets go....I was 18 years old in sept 85 when 3's A Crowd went off the air. I had a good nine years of the show under my belt as a religious viewer of the show. Ask me anything that's on your mind.

I am 41 and enjoyed TC when it debuted. I was 12 when it first came on the air. I believe that if one enjoys a show and watches it religiously, it doesn't matter what age you are. I wasn't around when I LOVE LUCY debuted, but it still doesn't change that I am a Lucy fanatic and know more abt ILL than people who actually watched it during its run.

To me, it's like a good ol' movie that came out before you were born. It makes no difference, the movie is still the same. As for television shows, the show is still the same. Albeit, there are editings in many shows so you don't get the same "feel" as when it was on the air, but still you can have likes, dislikes, fave characters, etc. The only thing one can't comment on is what was going on while the show was on the air the first time. One can comment on the Suzanne and Joyce feud, but that was then, this is now. One can comment on how bringing in the Teri character changed the show, but that is something that occurred then, it makes no difference now.

I have a great memory for certain things abt television shows and even if I was only 9 or 10 years old, I can still have feelings or comments abt something I seen.

You may have knowledge of the show but you wouldn;t be able to tell me what people were saying about it in the summer of 1956. I'm not looking for info about tc, i have too much knowledge about the show, I'm just interested in individual experiences of older fans the time it was on the air.

How did u feel after you watch the first ep of Three;s a Crowd?

Did you think it would last?

What was going through your mind during the absence of Chrissy in season 5?

Well, I can't go back in time, but I do have several books that go into depth abt the fans of I Love Lucy, the fan clubs; there is one book that has a section abt the viewers from that era who watched it and how their lives revolved around the show, the true fanatics. I can't speak for anyone else nor can I say what was going on during the time of the show, but that doesn't take away from the quality of the show, how it changed television etc. To be honest, who cares if I wasn't around when it first aired. Watching current shows now, doesn't make me more of a fan than those who will be fans down the road. It doesn't make me MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE, it doesn't make my OPINION ANY LESS. I can't tell you what people were saying in 1956, but I can read books and read abt what people were saying, what their feelings were abt the show, how they felt abt changes, how they felt abt the show's end, etc. I could care less what the damn weather was at that time, I could care less what the gossip mill was, I could care less. Eventually those who watched ILL back then may not be alive anymore. I know there are fans who are still alive, but the day will come when those from that era won't be alive anymore and we have no choice BUT TO RELY ON BOOKS, MAGAZINES, INTERNET, etc. to read abt WHAT WAS SAID AND DONE BACK THEN.

Personal experiences can't be forever. Which is why eventually you have to rely on second hand stuff. No one lives forever, so how can you ask someone abt a show that debuted in 1955 if those viewers get old and eventually die? Just like historians who we must rely on when we want to learn abt world history, film and television, etc. If I want to know abt the Civil War, I can't get "personal experience" because who is alive to tell me? If I want to learn abt the first motion picture camera and all those people who were around then are now dead, who can I ask for information? I either have to rely on books, the net or film buffs/historians.

I qualify, too! I am 45 and was 15 and 1/2 when "Three's Company" begain airing.
I actually remember watching the first episode, on a black & white TV. Pretty much by accident. I was changing channels and saw a guy waking up in a bathtub (Jack, of course). I thought it looked interesting so I watched the rest of the episode and became a weekly viewer.

I did not like at all when Chrissy was gone in 1980. I knew why it happened (in real life, not the characater), but it still was sad because it was right around the time that other characters started leaving popular TV shows (Ron Howard also left Happy Days in 1980). Laverne & Shirley left for California in 1980. So three big blows in 1980... not a good year for TV (for me, anyway). I liked '79 much better... and '78/'77 even more so.

I just wanted to add something else. For those who watched shows but were real young, I like their opinions on the show because I find it interesting to know what went through their mind when they watched it. For example, the younger members here who watched TC when they were in grade school, what did they think when so many sexual innuendoes were mentioned? How did they see the show as a youngster? They have opinions also. It's great to hear how others saw the show when they were so young.

Irene thank you, i started that last post just to chat with people abut the show.. what episodes did they like, favorite one liners.. This guy comes in and wants someone to analyze their thoughts that go back 30 years ago about the show. I feel like i should be in a psyc 101 instead talking on a chat forum.

As for the innuendos, of course at age 2 i wouldnt have understood them. I didnt beging watching the show until 82, i was 7 and thought some of the things were funny. overtime, i began to understand all the innuendos and they were quite funny. A person can go through many experiences in school and when u hear something u heard on tv things make more sense.. it was a great show.. but i didnt have any thoughts about chrissy leaving.. jack made the show, furley was hilarious, chrissy was dopey

During the Time when Chrissy was off the show and it was just Jack and Janet, did you think it would remain that way? Also was you saying to yoursef-"WHEN THE HELL IS CHRISSY COMING BACK?

I'm 41 and I watched TC when it originally aired. I remember watching the 1st episode. It was about the time we finally got 2 tv sets. My Mom was pregnant with my sister so she had her tv in the bedroom and for the first time I was in charge of the tv in the living room. Back then she loved The Waltons and the other CBS Thursday shows so we had to watch them. Anyway I was just channel surfing and I happened to come across TC. I didn't know what it was and some of the jokes went over my head but I knew that it was a laugh out loud funny comedy and I watched it until TAC ended in 1985.

Most 15 Years old don't BUY NEWSPAPERS so that's why I ask what the person was thinking in regards to Chrissy
