Default Starstruck

I actually enjoyed this episode, I was wondering why some don't like it. I think it was good at showing how teenagers can focuse way to much on pop stars, singers, bands, and neglect their responsibilities and also showed that stars are not all what you think or may seem. What's your opinion on this episode?

It was really well-done. Some people complain it was over the top or that Tootie simply threw a "tantrum", but it's obvious that was not the case. There's a big difference between a simple tantrum, and full-blown hysteria.

I think some people may take Kim Fields for granted. Almost every fan talks about Jo and/or Blair. Some talk about Natalie, but few mention Tootie. I think KF was talented, but no one took much notice of her. For example, I just watched "Breaking Point" and she was very good when she told Mrs. G about how she found Cynthia. Don't forget that KF was quite younger and less mature than the others. I like her and I think she did a good job in "Starstruck". I also think her singing (in "Christmas in the Big House") was exceleent and she's very pretty too.

This is one of my least favorite episodes of the entire series.

Blanche: There must be homosexuals who date women.
Sophia: Yeah, they're called lesbians.

I remember reading a thread on this episode, those who said they did not like the episode sited Tootie's whining as being over the top and annoying (myself included). In addition, it was just Jermaine Jackson she went crazy over.

It took a few viewings of this episode for me to appreciate it, I realized it was not out of the ordinary for pre-teens, teens, and even adults to go into phases of mass hysteria when they see their so-called idols. I have seen video's of people displaying this type of behavior with various bands like Beatles, the New Kids on the Block and The Spice Girls. I think Kim feilds was the right person for that role and she did a great job of playing the naive superfan. I like how the episode ended with Tootie realizing that sometimes these popstars/celebrities are not always what they seem to be.

I thought it was a little bit odd that her idol was Jermaine Jackson.

At the time of that show, I ADORED this actor, Grant Aleksander who played Phillip on "Guiding Light". I honestly think I would have gone beserk to see him. Just like Tootie. I thought about him all the time. I'm KF's age and I could completely and totally empathize. I remember at that time, GA was so popular that girls were tatooing his name into their flesh.

Even though "Starstruck" is not one of my favorite episodes, I still like it. I think the episode was really well done, very realistic and that Kim Fields did a really terrific job.

I think it's just this message board and probably a couple other message boards that hates her, she's pretty well-liked/popular with the general audience.

I thought Tootie's behavior was normal for a girl experiencing her first crush. Those hormones can make some teens hysterical.

That wasn't a "crush" though, but yes, full-blown hysteria.
