Mike Emert & David Marifield..A connection?? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Was just reading a thread on them.Ones story is on UM favorites vol. 6 & the others in on vol. 7. One was killed in washington by stabbing,one was in Texas by shooting.Doesnt sound related,however there are some similarities that i think are both eerie.They were both in touch with an unknown person that noone else ever saw,they both had meetings with these persons away from other people or witnesses.One was a realestate sales rep,one was a realestate attorney.Checks found that both men had clean backgrounds,and there were no obvious motives.Could both of the men had a common business dealing,or had info on somebody,i would be curious if there are any common links between these 2 men.It sounds like a stretch,but what do you guys think?

I always thought these two cases 'felt' the same too! It might not have had as much to do with the victims (their background or personality) as it did with their accessibility.

I'm sure there are more cases like this floating around out there -- like the Zodiac Killer's killing of a taxi cab driver (an even longer shot).

Well I saw a very interesting case on AMW that seemed VERY similar to Emert's case. By similiar I mean the suspect described in both was very similiar. A man named Al Kite was murdered in Aurora, Colorado a couple of years ago. Here is the link to the case and I am curious if anyone else finds the similiarities striking.

Mike Emert and David Marifeild's murders didn't seem as 'angry' as Al Kite's killer.

Otherwise they are very similar.

Well Al Kite's killer was potentially angry. However regardless of the killer's mood what struck me was the amount of overkill done on both Kite and Emert. It is a remote possibility that Kite and Emert were killed by the same person but possible none the less. Like how Kite and Emert's killer took both their wallets and other personal items. How both were overkilled by stabbing. How both of these mysterious men in the Kite and Emert case's walked with limps and used canes yet were able to overpower and kill two healthy, well built men. How neither "Robert" in Kite's case nor "Steven" in Emert's case ever checked out. Very interesting to say the least. Also how both the mysterious Steven and the mysterious Robert both were said to have east coast accents sounding most like New Jersey.

The cane is sooooo weird. The two people who talked to him observing different accents - yikes!

In addition, Kite's murder was at least as well planned (if not more so) than Emert's. The account on AMW makes note that the killer wore a mask while using Kite's ATM. Also, he left his cellphone and Kite's in an area frequented by homeless people to keep the cops busy.

Is there a detailed description (height, weight, age) for Kite's killer? I couldn't find anything more than the composite sketch.

Well they may have withheld some of that info to make sure the tips they were getting were genuine. However that is unusual that they wouldnt tell his age and stuff. But it seems not many got a real look at this guy. However it could be they have no idea what his age is because he changes his apperance so much. He looked to me to be at least well into his 40's. I believe Emert said he thought "Steven" was in his early to mid 50's. However "Steven" also could have disguised himself to look older.

I suppose I better go out of my way to explain that my theory is a longshot and that most likely Emert and Al Kite's case are not related. However I think it is an interesting theory that they could be, they do have some very unique similiarities and so hopefully people will chime in their opinion on this interesting possibility.

I'm with you, Kadrmas. It's most likely that the two crimes are not related. However, I admire you, MikeM, for noticing the similarities and pointing out the possibility of a serial killer.

I was really disturbed by the amount of effort that was obviously put into Al Kite's murder. The whole "dropping the cell phone off in an area filled with homeless people" was pretty damn cunning, and in my opinion, totally points to premediation.

Well I have confirmed they are not related, the cases of Al Kite and Mike Emert. At least not related in terms of the same people doing them. I e-mailed the detective from Colorado assigned to Al Kite's case and asked him about Emert and whether he had ever looked into it. He got back to me and said that he was in contact with King County investigators early on comparing notes abotu Emert's case and Kite's case. He said without being specific because the investigations were outgoing that while both cases were interesting in their own rights and had some similarities that they were able to determine that it was not the same person that had killed Emert and Kite. He said that he had details they hadnt released to the media about Kite and that King County had details that had not been released about Emert and that because of the unreleased items they were able to rule it out being the same killer. But I did not ask him about Marifield but I do think that is an interesting connection as well.

If she wasnt dead I would not have put it past Elaine Parent to be involved with Kite. I mean Kite's murder actually also seems like something Parent would be involved in. There must be more to Kite's because it appears to have been an unusually brutal murder for just a rather small amount of money. I wish I would have asked him if he ever contacted the detectives on Marifield's case. Another unlikely almost impossible connection but it would have been worth a comparison of notes on the case.

That's a great update! I always look forward to hearing that either of these cases has been solved

Hmm, well personally, I still consider it possible the cases were related. There just seems to be a lot of similarities. Not to question Detective Sobieski's judgement, but I remember just having a feeling as soon as I read about Al Kite's case that the two could be related. However I have been thinking of e-mailing him again to see if he ever checked with the Dallas Police into the possible connection with David Merrifield. If anyone else wants to e-mail hi, it is Detective Tom Sobieski of the Aurora, Colorado Police Department.

Man, these 3 are one of the most baffling cases ever to be featured on UM.

Simply because you cannot determine the motive behind it. Why go through all the trouble to single out these 3 guys and then kill them?

What did Sam Jones, Steven or Robert Cooper get out of killing these 3 people?
