Just asking because I was watching Generation Boom on TV LAND and they mentioned that the Microwaves came out in the early 70's. But I can't remember if the Bradys had one

The Bradys had a built-in oven and range.

I do not think they had one. It always showed Alice or the Bradys using ovens and stoves.

The microwave oven was not a common household item until the 1980's.

Actually, microwave ovens were first commercially available in the late 1940's.
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/history.html Fun fact: By 1975 Sales of Microwave Ovens Exceeded that of Gas Ranges! |

Microwaves may have outsold gas ranges in 1975, but by that time most people were using electric stoves. Gas ranges had become a thing of the past.

I remember the Amana Radar Range, that was beyond the reach of most people.

Just what was the 'Range'? How did you cook (?) with it?

IIRC, I think the Amana "Radar Range" seemed to be a combination stove and microwave oven. It was an all-in-one unit, and the microwave oven was above the stove on the unit. It was a pretty popular prize on shows like "Let's Make a Deal" and perhaps "The Newlywed Game" as well back in the late 60s. As a kid, "Radar Range" sounded REALLY cool! Back to the thread...there's no indication that the Bradys ever had a microwave oven on the original show. I don't think anything was ever cooked quickly in that kitchen. |
