Guitar Help? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Ok, so I have a guitar and a "teach yerself to play, lozl" song book but I'm having trouble with some things:

1 tuning (i've tryed tuning it to my keyboard, but it still sounds off)
2 playing chords (I can play a mean D7

)
3 reading music
4 changing chords quickly

I'm super confused about pretty much everything

Any help would be greatly appreicated!

I wish I could help, but I have most of the same problems that you do.

When it comes to playing the guitar, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Eddie Van Halen having nothing to fear from me.

Here are three guys who can teach you to play guitar real well.

Buy a small tuner, they cost like 20-30 bucks and I'm sure a local music store would have them.

For the other ones, just keep practicing or look online maybe there are sites with tips. It's hard to learn to play an instrument especially the guitar or piano.

If you're going to manually tune a guitar (without use of a tuner), have the first string (E string) tuned to how you like it, then put your finger over the 5th fret, and the E string should sound exacty the same as the next one (A string). Once you have those 2 strings sounding identical, put your finger over the 5th fret on the A string, and pluck that and the D string, until they sound alike. Keep doing this for each string, except you're going to put your finger over the 4th fret on the G string while you're tuning that and the B string, then back to the 5th fret for the B and 2nd E string.

for tuning, everything has basically been said...

im guessing for music you mean guitar tabs...and basically, on the tab staff, theres 6 lines, each one representing a string of the guitar. the numbers are what fret you're supposed to play...so if theres a 7 on the 3rd line, you're supposed to play the 3rd string, 7th fret. im assuming you know what a fret is

as for the others, just practice a lot, you'll get it eventually
