Why does it seem like people buy snow shovels every year? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I don't understand this. What do they do with there ones from last winter, or the year before, or the year before....

We bought two in the Blizzard of 96' and we use the same ones every year.

I know! My only guess would be that either people somehow lose their shovels (don't have any clue how that could happen), or they break it somehow on like a major ice storm clean up?

I am guessing it is loosing them-lol

As for breaking, not here in VA. We are lucky if we get two inches of snow at a time.

We don't use them where I live, but when I was growing up in New York and New Jersey, we'd have one or two blizzards every year. Well, those 'scoop'-type shovels--the ones that look like a miniature snow plow--they're very lightweight and flimsy; they have to be, because snow's so heavy, you wouldn't be able to lift it without hurting your back. Of course, the idea is to use it while the snow's still not that deep and push it along the ground, but people don't usually stand there and shovel every couple of minutes. They usually waited (as I remember) until all the snow had fallen, then using these 'scoops' to clear away a foot and a half of snow, which is what they're not designed for. The extra weight breaks them easily...that's my theory.

I don't know that i've ever seen a snow shovel in real life, only on TV. Don't have much need for snow shovels in SC.

I know, here in Southern Calif. unless you live in the mountains, we don't need snow shovels. Christmas day was so damn hot, we could wear shorts and sandals.

We just use our snowblower, or if it's not working which it usually is not. The snow blade on front of our Four Wheeler, works like a charm.

We have one, but I don't think it has ever been taken out of the box-lol
