Default I Love Lucy goofs...

In the episode LUCY GETS IN PICTURES Lucy wants to get discovered in Hollywood. Lucy accidently references to Caroline Appleby as LILLIAN Appleby. The character had been Lillian before, but was changed to Caroline later in the series. I guess Lucy got used to calling the character Lillian.

In REDECORATING THE MERTZES' APARTMENT Lucy stated to Ricky, "Let's paint the furniture and reupholster the old furniture." Instead of "Let's paint the APARTMENT and reupholster the old furniture." Desi caught this and ad-libbed the scene rather than stop the filming.

In PARIS AT LAST, the prop department made an error when they placed a bottle of California wine on the table in the french restaurant.

Ethel's middle name is May in one episode and something else (sorry I can't remember) in Million Dollar Idea.

I have read that Ethel's full name is Ethel Louise Roberta Mae Potter (Mertz). One time Fred calls her Ethel Louise although the most common usage is Ethel Mae. Vivian Vance's middle name is Roberta, so maybe that is where they got that from. I don't remember hearing it used, though.

What did Desi say to Lucy?

When Lucy flubbed the line, Desi said, "You mean paint the apartment and upholster the old furniture."

As for Ethel's middle name, Lucy calls her Ethel Roberta in "The Million Dollar Idea" when they start to deliver the salad dressing on roller skates.

Last year I noticed a prop goof in "California, Here We Come." Lucy names New Orleans, Louisiana as the first place the gang wants to see, but when she shows Ethel the map her line doesn't go anywhere near Louisiana.

These are interesting...for a long time, I Love Lucy was one of my favorite shows! I still really enjoy watching it--not a lot of good, funny, family, wholesome shows left out there

Interesting, though useless, and perhaps hilarious trivia about that map...

Looks like 29 states they drive through, covering approximately 12,115 miles.

A few interesting shapes to be seen... an A, a kite, a 'blockhead' kissing Lake Michigan, a pair of 'sharp' eyes staring at Houston and New Orleans, a triangular handle, 6 triangles in all, and most interesting, an evil-looking woman with a gaunt chin and pointed nose.

Good info abt the miles. To think, it was said the trip would be 3000 miles. Well, if they did all those stops, surely the trip ended up being 4 times that. It was also said they would be on the road for a week. Not if they took all those "side trips". I would ponder that Ricky said "Hell no, we ain't going to go visit all those places."

Default Almost every episode has a blooper!

There are dozens of I Love Lucy goofs and inconsistencies. Some are obvious, and some are subtle or happen quickly. That is part of the charm of the show.

Check out east68street.com to see a great list of bloopers. That part of the site is being updated, so check back later too. The webmaster is in the process of adding photos next to the bloopers to show them as they happen.

If you see a mishap that's not on that list, you've got a good eye.
