Default On The Buses

This British sitcom is,as far as I am concerned, the greatest sitcom of all-time even bettering Only Fools And Horses. With 74 episodes of On The Buses made between 1969 and 1973 it hits all the right notes with me with all the ingredients necessary for classic comedy.

Written by Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney the scripts were of the highest quality. The cast were equally superb with the right chemistry there between all the characters.Laced with innuendo and great one-liners it is a pleasure to watch again and again and at long last every episode has finally been released on DVD.

Any other fans of this classic sitcom here?

Yes, myself. I think it was one of the first Britcoms I ever saw on American television. And it is still one of the funniest Britcoms I have ever seen on American television.

On the Buses was the basis for the 70s America sitcom that starred Dom DeLuise "Lotsa Luck."

One of the first Britcoms I ever watched and still one of my favorites. The series of films . . .

"On the Buses" (1971)
"Mutiny on the Buses" (1972)
"Holiday on the Buses" (1973)

based on the television series were done by Hammer Film Productions. The same one that made all those horror films. And while I do not have the box office grosses for the films, I do believe that these films were more successful at the box office, than any of Hammer's horror films.

To me, OTBs reminds me quite a bit of M*A*S*H... Two young anarchists in the same vein as Hawkeye and Trapper, who spend all their time chasing women and trying to buck the system, by breaking rules , left and right. The Inspector is very much the same character as Frank Burns, a by-the-book superior who becomes the heroes' most frequent victim, just because hes trying to do his job.....I always felt badly for both of them, for that reason!

LWT offered him a show of his own, 'reg varney' later called 'the other reg varney'. arthur (michael robbins) left because wolfe and chesney stopped wrting them when they went to the US to work on 'Lotsa luck'.
