Holiday Edition of Getting to Know Your Friends

This would be a great survey to find out some of our Christmas cultural traditions from one another. Whoever wants to fill this out, I would love to read your answers.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Eggnog is always special during this time of year! Hot chocolate is for any other time of the year.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
Wrap.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white?
Colored. Blue lights are preferrably pretty.

4. Do you hang mistletoe?
Never used/hung mistletoe, but I wouldn't mind doing it one year. There would be a certain special person I'd love to kiss under the mistletoe.

5. When do you put your decorations up?
I finally put up my little two-foot silver tree with white lights, and I have finally strung my collection of Christmas cards all around my living room.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
Tamales, menudo, champurrado, buñuelos, bizcochitos, turkey, hot homemade fruit punch....all the authentic Mexican foods! Yum!!

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
I didn't have very many childhood holiday memories, so I am going with the gifts I got.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
Probably around ten years old, I believe.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
It depends how I celebrate. If it's with my extended family, we usually open them on Christmas Eve near midnight. Otherwise, I will just wait until Christmas Day.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
It already has white lights attached to it. It's also about two feet long, so there's not much more room for decorating.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I love seeing it, but I dread driving in it. Speaking of which, it's lightly snowing right now as I am typing this.

12. Can you ice skate?
No, but I would like to learn and try it out one day. I'm all for experiences.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift when you were a kid?
It has to be the toy gifts.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
The togetherness of family and friends year-round.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Champurrado, bizcochitos, hot homemade punch, cow tongue sweet empanadas, and buñuelos. Mmmm....

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Don't have a single one. Mine would have to be just generalized. Just being around family and friends and not feeling lonely is special enough.

17..What tops your tree?
Nothing. My tree is so tiny I couldn't top it with much.

18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving?
Giving. It's really awesome to see the surprised looks written across others' faces.

19. What is your favorite Christmas song?
The classics.

20. Candy Canes?
The traditional red and white candy canes are good. I also love the varied flavor ones, too.

uhh i think i was in 4th grade. so 9.

no. we open them on christmas morning. and then we open them with aunts/cousins/uncle later on, usually after christmas dinner.

put on a ton of colored lights, a tiny bit of white lights, and ornaments.

LOVE IT.

12. Can you ice skate?
not really but its fun to go ice skating anyway lol.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift when you were a kid?
toy ones i guess. i was a kid

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
being with family. i just wrote an essay on it!

PUDDING PIE. and christmas cookies!

being with FAMILY opening the gifts on christmas morning is magical, too.

giving i guess, but im not gonna lie and say i dont like receiving lol.

WHAT??? THERE'S NO SANTA??? (Sorry for the caps, but I just had to take that opportunity), but seriously though, I was confused at like 6-8 but around 9 or 10 I did.

Some years, yeah.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
The icicles-shaped things that hang down along with colored lights. Looks great when the silver icicle-things reflect the colors of the lights.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I like snow, but I hate it when I have to drive, like someone else said.

12. Can you ice skate?
No, never tried it.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift when you were a kid?
Air Hockey Table.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Like someone else said, spending time with family and everyone being together.

I'm not a person for sweets other than chocolate chip cookies.

Giving... its great to see when people appreciate their gifts.

Blue lights look great....and white.

LOL - we've never hung miseltoe but it would be fun to do it one year. I got a picture of one at school from my girlfriend, and I would go around reusing it on people....I got to kiss 25 people, including 5 teachrs. It was hilarious.

5. When do you put your decorations up?
No set time usually, this year it was the weekend after Thanksgiving.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish?
I like kielbasa.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
Nothing specific.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
12 or 13, my mom told me.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
If we go to one side of the family on Christmas Eve, then yes. But this year we're doing both sides of the family on Christmas Day.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
This year, white lights, gold and red ornaments, gold and red beads, and poinsetta bunches.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
For Christmas and for snow days, it's great.

12. Can you ice skate?
Yes. It's so much fun. Last year, we got most of our junior class to go together on winter break. It was great.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift when you were a kid?
Yep...our family computer, trip to Disney.

Stuffing, yams, cranberry sauce. Traditional holiday dishes.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
All The christmas throughout grade school, in the 70's we still lived in CT and all our friends and family were still around. We always had a full house that day.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
9 or 10

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
Yes, most of them are opened on Christmas Eve and some of them are opened on Christmas Day when my sister comes over.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
multi-colored lights and ornaments.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
I love alot of it on Christmas and then it can go away.

12. Can you ice skate?
Nope, I tried it once and hated it.

Probably the big wheel I got when I was 7 or 8.

Presents, family, food, music, Christmas colors, Snow.

Apple Pie, Pumpkin Pie, cheesecake.

Taking a walk after dinner on Christmas Eve, That's always fun, I love seeing the homes with their lights.

5. When do you put your decorations up?
Well, we didn't do any this year, but we usually put them up the first or second week in December.

stuffing, green bean casserole, yams

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child:
Putting the tree together with my whole family, as well as going to sleep with my brothers and talking all night about Santa coming.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
9 or 10...I just asked my Mom one day and she told me.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?
No, we usually open most of our gifts really early on Christmas morning (the immediate family will, anyway), then my Grandma and her boyfriend will come over for breakfast and we will open their gifts (as well as give them theirs). Christmas day will be spent together, then we all have dinner and dessert (sometimes other people will pop in too). I think this year, though, we're all going to our Grandma's new house and having dinner there

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
Usually multi-colored lights and decorations (no star or tinsel). Last year, though, we had a really awesome tree that was red, gold, and green themed. I loved it!

I like it if I don't have to drive anywhere

12. Can you ice skate?
Never tried it.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift when you were a kid?
Hmm, thinking, thinking...well, my favorite gifts were given to me when I was a little older (first stereo when I was 16, first record player when I was 23), but I did get use out of my Muppet Babies piano when I was a kid

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
spending time with family, enjoying each others' company with good food. Nothing better than that!

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert?
Mmm, Christmas cookies! I love the rainbow ones (I think they're called Neopolitans?) and the cookies filled with jelly. Soooo good

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Well, it used to be taking a drive with the family and seeing all the houses lit up, but I don't think we're doing that this year I guess my favorite holiday tradition would have to be spending time with my Grandma...she always makes the holiday so warm and festive. I just love being around her. I also have a tradition where I watch holiday specials on Christmas Eve before bed (South Park's Christmas specials are a fond memory for me, for some reason).

We open gifts with my maternal grandparents on Christmas Eve night and then we open presents at our house Christmas morning and then my other grandparents Christmas night.

We put on the white and colored lights and our tree is covered with ornaments because me and both of my sisters get a new ornament every year

I love it! I've only seen it 4 times in my life though. It never snows here.

Celebrating the birth of Jesus and spending time with my family.

Wrap them. When I was little, it was a mixture of the two, though.

Colored. I like white on a tree, but I have so many ornaments, it doesn't pull off the classy effect, so I stick with color!

Once I hung it in the car, but that's it.

Day after Thanksgiving.

Ham. It's the only time of the year I eat it.

Driving around, looking at Christmas lights.

When I was 3 (!), my grandmother told me I was "an idiot for believing in such nonesense." (no lie....direct quote)

Nope!

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree?
OK....here we go: Keep in mind, my tree is 6 foot fake.
First, I wrap around 500 colored lights around it (at least one bulb on every part of each branch, pointing up or out).
Next, I put on all the ornaments. I have a whole bunch of old-school ones and a huge Old World Christmas glass ones. When I was little, we used to get to go to the store and pick out two ornaments, so it's fun to go back and look at the dates and see what I was into when I was little.
Next, I put on the angel.
Then, I drape strands of red, white, and blue beads around the tree.
Then, I clasps glass birds around the top of the tree.
Lastly, I hang icycle ornaments.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it?
Snow on Christmas is a much...so long as I don't have to drive in it.

12. Can you ice skate?
Nope...I'm not very coordinated. But, I would LOVE to learn how....just need someone to teach me

13. Do you remember your favorite gift when you were a kid?
A puppy

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you?
Reflecting on the past year and trying to figure out what to do with the next one.

Bannana Pudding....

Followed closely by going to the movies on Christmas Eve.

I used to open one gift on Christmas eve now we waited for Christmas day cause we don't get that much gifts anyways.

well frist we put the tree up then put the white lights in frist then colored light, then put the oradeget up then the garaded the tree isn't that big so we put it on the table and put the angle on top.

I like the snow, but I don't like being in the snow.
