Default Do actors and actresses get paid too much?

I've just checked out the top 10 best paid Actors and Actresses (see list below). Personally I think they're paid FAR too much.

I mean, sure they keep us entertained, and are good at their job, but so are a lot people.

What makes their job worth more than those who go out every day and bust a gut for minimum wage?

I'm sure dvds, cinema tickets, etc... would all be much more affordable if the studios didn't have to fork out massive Actor wages.

Top 10 best paid actors in Hollywood with current age and earnings:

Will Ferrell - 38 - $40 million
Johnny Depp - 42 - $37 million
Ray Romano - 48 - $36.5 million
Will Smith - 37 - $35 million
Tobey Maguire - 30 - $32 million
Tom Cruise - 43 - $32 million
Denzel Washington - 51 - $30 million
Adam Sandler - 39 - $28 million
Matt Damon - 35 - $27 million
Brad Pitt - 42 - $25 million

Top 10 best paid actress in Hollywood with current age and earnings:

Drew Barrymore - 31 - $22 million
Jennifer Aniston - 37 - $18.5 million
Jennifer Lopez - 36 - $17 million
Nicole Kidman - 38 - $14.5 million
Jennifer Garner - 33 - $14 million
Cameron Diaz - 33 - $13 million
Naomi Watts - 37 - $11.5 million
Sandra Bullock - 41 - $10.5 million
Patricia Heaton - 47 - $9 million
Julia Roberts - 38 - $8 million

I'm surprised Reese Witherspoon isn't on that list. She's recieved some big paychecks for some of her recent movies.

Actresses like Lennifer Lopez, who continue to make subpar stinkers do not deserve high paychecks.

That's true. It's sad. Sport is now more about the buisness than the game.

Do actors, actresses, other celebrities, and athletes get paid too much? HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is deplorable that these people get an obscene amount of money for what they do while teachers, law enforcement officers, firefighters, mail carriers, health care providers, waiters, store clerks, truckers, construction workers, etc get paid so little for all the important work they do. When these people do try to ask for a decent wage, they are called selfish. However, you never see celebrities and athletes criticized for all the undeserved money they get.

I guess it's true what my uncle always used to say: the more important your job is to society, the less pay and respect you will get.

Thank you for mentioning J-HO.

I don't get why they get paid so much. With nurses, firefighters, law enforcement, teachers, caretakers, and other well-deserving and hard-working professions out there begging for raises and better wages and benefits, it's a sad state of affairs when people who act get a better living than those I mentioned.

And quite a few of those people can't even act or sing or play a decent game.

I assume Ray Ramano is on that list mostly because of the killing he made off of "Everybody Loves Raymond," and I don't begrudge him or any other standup comic turned sitcom star one dime.

Guys like Ray Ramano and Jerry Seinfeld busted thier butts in the comedy clubs for years making no money, and managed to get a shot on TV, which is hard enough, but to actually have a show that is a long running critical and audience hit in today's TV age is a tremendous feat. It takes a lot of work to make a hit sitcom, and they deserve to reap the rewards.

Yes, they definitely get paid too much but they do provide entertainment for us, but not enough entertainment for the amount of money they receive.

I'm kinda partial, but I think they get paid way to much to merely entertain while there are many people who get paid far too little...like people who risk their lives for others or take care of others (police, fire department, nurses, and teachers to name a few)

On the whole, no, athletes or actors are not overpaid. If millions of people will pay several dollars to go watch their movie, or buy expensive seats to their events/games, or wear their clothing/perfume/gear/whatever that they endorse (which often is a waste of money, but people do it anyway), then they deserve what they're paid.

I'd pay $100 to watch Kevin Garnett play basketball, I would not pay a dime to watch a construction worker work his ass off.

Question for those of you who think they're all overpaid: Where should the money that these actors/athletes generate go?

Very well said, sad but true. As a teacher myself, I definitely think Actors get paid far more then they should. Having said that, I can't blame the actors for getting the amount of money they do. If people are willing to pay them obscene amounts of money, all power to them.

I respect actors/entertainers who do use their platform and contribute to society in a positive way ie. donating their time and money to worthwhile causes. What I do have a problem with is entertainers with big egos who whine and complain that they are not getting paid enough and do not use their powers to try and make a difference in this world.

Default hi! I am new here

hi. Yeah, I think they get paid too much. But I wouldnt mind if these people spend their money and their free time trying to make a difference in this world. Take Angelina Jolie, for instance. She tries to help the poor in Cambodia and Africa. At least that is one actress who tries. What I cant stand are peopl like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, and Paris Hilton. ESPECIALLY Paris Hilton. Meaningless party animals.
