Default James let 20 Years go Past without ever having a..................

CHECKUP???? I mean I know some Low Income Families can't afford a Family Doctor but couldn't he have went to the local free clinic to get his heart and blood pressure checked ONCE a year???-lol There was no excuse for James to go that long without ever getting his HEALTH checked atleast ONCE in 20 Years.

Some men are like that. My boyfriend hadn't seen a doctor for a check-up until two years ago. The last time he had one before that was in the 80's. It just seems that some men (women too) don't want to hear bad news. Or, they figure, if they don't have pain, nothing is wrong with them. My boyfriend's father had kidney failure which caused his death. But for months prior he stated he felt no pain so why see a doctor.

I always been in the-"Why Bother with a Doctor if I have no Pain Club" but I still think everyone should get their checked out atleast once a Year. My family doctor suggested TWICE a Year

Being an older female, there are things that must be checked out.

As for James, he used the excuse abt blacks not being able to afford a check-up, however, Flo knew there was the free clinic, so why didn't she suggest it earlier?

Well keep in mind this was the 70's and free clinics was a new concept. Also Former Attorney General Dr. Joyce Elders stated that she didn't see a docter until she went to college ! So it is possibly, sadly there are alot of people walking around now who don't go b/c they can't afford to free clinic or not.

I don't think James had time while he was working two jobs. I don't go to the doctor unless I have to go, I didn't even have health insurance for the longest time.

Some people don't. I mean, you can only go Monday thru Friday. Rarely is a doctor available on Saturday. A free clinic is only open so many hours during the week, with James working two jobs, it is obvious $$$$ was the priority here. It just seems to be a man thing regarding going to the doctor. Not all men mind you, just generalizing here. Not to mention a free clinic means having to hang around to be called. I know that going to a private physician, one must wait for at least 30 minutes before being called, can you imagine at a free clinic?????

I've gone to my doctor for my "you know" and I've had to wait an hr or two. And that's because she's the only doctor in her practice. So I totally understand the whole waiting thing, when you go to the ER and it's not an emergency, you'll have to wait just about all damn night just to see a doctor.

So I can see why James wouldn't want to go to the doctor, all that time he would have spent sitting at the doctors he could have been out working and earning some rent money. But that's not a good excuse for not taking care of your self and getting checked out at least once a year.
