Over-Rated Episodes?

OK Brady Fanatics!

What are your most over-rated episodes? I can think of two:

"Getting Davey Jones.": I can not understand the hoopla over this episode. It's popularity seems to be because Davey Jones was with The Monkees at that time and from what I remember they were still big in December 1971. (This episodes' original air-date.) I can even live with the far-fetched storyline, but why is this rated so highly on episode polls? It's not the worst by any means. That dishonor goes to "And Now a Word From Our Sponsor" (Laudrey Soap) or "You're Never too Old" (Grandparents.) I can name 40+ episodes better than this one, but so many LOOOVVE it, why?

"The Personality Kid.": Same story as "Davey Jones" Peter decides he's got a dull personality so goes around the house imitating Humphry Bogart. ("Pork Shops and Applesaaasss") Actually, as some may already know, when they rehersed this episode Chris Knight didn't know who Humprey Bogart was, so Lloyd Schwartz coached him on how to DO Bogart impressions. So you see Chris doing Lloyd's impression of Humphry Bogart. Chris said that at the time of filming, there was a Humphry Bogart movie on TV, but he fell asleep that night so Lloyd had to show him how to do it.

Ok, it's a cute little line, but it gets WAAAY too much credit. Maybe Peter thought he was dull because when Chris read the script in real life, he thought that episode was dull. But for some reason, people love this episode.

What are your thoughts? What episodes would you add to this list?

I'll have to say "Getting Greg's Goat," in which Greg steals the rival school's goat mascot, qualifies as an "over-rated episode." I absolutely HATED the misunderstanding that was presented when Greg and the goat were in the same room. Did that spawn the idea of Three's Company? It really makes you wonder when you consider both TBB and TC were on the same network. YIKES!

As you can probably tell, I hated (and still do today) Three's Company, and this episode does nothing but remind me of that awful show! AHHHHHHHHHHGH!

Threes Company was based on a similar British Comedy

I hated it too, but it lasted longer than Brady Bunch.

The main reason I hated it was when it invaded Nick at Nite's lineup in 2000 and put the "Big 4" of The Brady Bunch, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and The Wonder Years on proverbial thin ice. I mean, this was a successful lineup! If it ain't broke ...

I also found it offensive and envelope-pushing, packed with innuendo and stuff to give the American Family Association (I didn't say Parents Television Council because that group wasn't around until 1995, long after TC went off the air) fits. Why couldn't they make it wholesome like Leave It To Beaver? I mean, sheesh.

I thought that too many things about it were unrealistic. At the time I was also pretty prudish. I've mellowed since then.

I agree with you about "The Personality Kid" being very overrated! I've never found it to be much of an enjoyable episode (though it might be worth watching for Alice's imitation of Peter's Humphrey Bogart impression- the way she throws her lip up and peels whatever vegetable she's peeling at the time is hysterical!).

Other overrated episodes, in my opinion:

"The Hero"- this episode has never been a favorite for me; it feels strange and Peter acts way out of character, I've always thought. Plus, I think it's just boring! (on a side note, count the number of "Wow's" Peter throws around in this episode. It's like the producers were trying to make this his catchphrase or something, but evidently it never stuck!)

"Her Sister's Shadow"- never have understood the whole "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" line's popularity- I mean come on, it comes from the mouth of the show's worst character! What does this episode bring to the table that we didn't already know? Season 2's episode "The Not-so-Ugly Duckling" already proved that Jan has always been envious of Marcia. We didn't need another episode to drive that nail further in.

The Hawaii Three-Part Special- I've barely watched these three, mainly on the basis that they just weren't very funny to me the first time watched them. That third episode is especially awful- what a cheesy atrocity! I've always been more partial to the Grand Canyon vacation episodes. Those are far more entertaining, in my opinion.

I really like the Pork chops and apple sauce ep. I'm a big Peter fan though! And the goat mascot ep. I liked that one too!

One that was overrated IMO was Oh my nose. Marcia getting hit by the football, and her nose swelling! That was supposed to be a great ep, and I didn't think it was all that!

I'd agree that "Getting Davy Jones" is overrated (as was Davy Jones himself). I think that's probably the most overrated episode, especially since it's appeared on several "greatest TV episodes of all time" list.

I think both three-part vacation episodes were over rated.

I don't know that a whole lot of episodes are over rated though. A handful of episodes are (imho) unwatchable today (e.g. "You're Never Too Old", in which Reed and Henderson play their own Grandparents), but that's not the same as over-rated.

I don't mind The Personality Kid, or Getting Greg's Goat (although I agree that it's a dumb premise to have Greg in his room with someone named Raquel, and suddenly, you can hear everything that goes on in Greg's room through a vent. Ever try to listen to another room through a vent? Good luck)

Maybe "Is there a Dr in the House?" might be overrated, because of the actors who played the Doctors.

I actually enjoyed "Getting Greg's Goat" quite a bit for the great farce in the climactic scene, from the principal's rolling his eyes to the running room-to-room to Carol's slamming the closet door shut ("...a walk-in closet!") upon seeing Greg & Raquel there. Of course there happens to be a chair in the upstairs hallway to create yet one more obstacle for the chase. It's also funny to see that the director of this farce just happened to be Robert Reed, directing his fourth and final BB episode.

First of all, after the first few seasons, Happy Days stunk. Laverne and Shirley was garbage. And The Wonder Years is an OK show, but not an all-time great.

Second of all, who gives a **** about wholesome? The first few seasons of Three's Company were hilarious. That's what matters. Not some wholesome crap.
