Default Very Long Airport Delays

Last Thursday I spent more than 10 hours in the airport here. We were supposed to leave at 10:28am for FL. We arrived at the airport at 8am. We didn't actually start boarding the plane until 6:19pm. The reason the flight was delayed originally was due to fog. The fog, however, was noticeably less by 12pm and by 2:30pm the sky was clear. Several fights were delayed over and over again and others were canceled altogether. We didn't get to our destination until almost 9pm. Since the plane didn't take off until nearly 7pm. We seldom have dense fog. Spending 10+ hours in the airport was very boring, frustrating, and a pain. The airport staff seemed to be clueless. They didn't have any "helpful" information. People were continually directed to different gates other than their origirial gates over the intercom system. One group was even directed to a different terminal. The airport staff were getting quite angry at passengers. We (the group going to our destination) were screamed at. We were told to sit down and be quiet by an airport staff woman who was way too angry. We couldn't leave the airport because our flight kept getting delayed and we didn't know when it was going to finally show up, if at all. Apparently the following day (last Friday) there were still some people there from the day before waiting to get on a flight because their flight was canceled. We thought that we would at least get something to eat on the plane since it was nearly 7pm, but apparently there was no food left for anyone on the plane. Yesterday we had an hour delay due to weather coming back. We were supposed to get a meal on the plane yesterday, but we got jipped again.

Has anyone had to spend very long amounts of time such as 10+ hours at the airport?

Oh MAN, Jen, I'm sorry. That's terrible that they did this to you... I hope they will reimburse you guys somehow for the crap that you had to go through on Friday. It doesn't sound like it, though.

I've not had to wait 10+ hours at an airport, but something like this happened to my dad and stepmom earlier this year. When they were flying to London, they were to fly into Minneapolis, and then take a nonstop to London- well, their plane to Minneapolis got delayed, because there was a bad snowstorm going on there. So- when the next flight to Minneapolis was available, they took that. But it messed with their flight schedule big-time... They ended up having to take one more flight to Detroit (seriously worst airport ever, I've been there too), and the people there were nice enough to place my dad and stepmom in first class on a nonstop to London to make up for the major delays they went through. If they want to travel to London, beginning at our home destination, it would take about 12 hours (that's with the layovers too). They ended up having to travel close to 24 hours because of the terrible delays they went through getting to Minneapolis, plus an additional flight they didn't ask for.

I traveled to New York City two days after they did and to get there, I also needed to take a flight into Minneapolis so that I could take a nonstop to New York City. The conditions in Minneapolis were a lot better by this point, although we had a slight delay when we were waiting for our plane to NYC. We were supposed to have taken off at 10:30am; we didn't leave until 11:30am. It didn't interfere with anything, but the delay was annoying.

Similarly, there was a bit of a delay when we were leaving NYC to go back home, and we almost missed our connection in Minneapolis because our plane got into Minneapolis really late and gave us 15 minutes to spare.

That's horrible. I've only flown once and we were fine. We had a slight hlaf-hour delay on the way home. We went down to Florida three years ago in February. It was fun and flying for the first time was great.

Blanche: There must be homosexuals who date women.
Sophia: Yeah, they're called lesbians.

when I was a freshman in high school, my band went to Europe, and there were so many of us that we had to take 2 seperate flights. My flights had me with a 12 hour layover in Boston, and we weren't allowed to leave the aiport. It was fun for awhile, but it soon got really boring

Reminds me of my fave Hoodoo Gurus song that goes like this....a travelling blues for ya....I know!!!!!:

10.000 Miles Away
Estimated time of arrival 9.30 a.m.
Been up before the sun and now I'm tired before I even begin.
(Now you're flying) I got so much work in front of me,
(Really flying) it stretches out far as the eye can see.
I can see.

Spend half my life in airports doing crosswords and attempting to sleep,
And when the bar is open then you'll often find me warming a seat.
(Now you're flying) I never find a place where I can stay
(Really flying) I'd rather be a thousand miles away.
Thousand miles away.

Working for yourself sometimes ain't all that it's cracked up to be.
It can be as lonely at the top as at the bottom of that corporate tree
(Now you're flying) I'm told I'm going places - who can say ?
(Really flying) I might arrive but I'll be gone the very next day.
I must be on my way
A thousand miles away.

Promised to myself someday I'd take the time and try to make sense
Out of all those opportunities I've lost from trying to sit on the fence
(Now you're flying) But right now I've got no time for yesterday
(Really flying) Yesterday's a thousand miles away.
A thousand miles away.

What was that that you were trying to say ?
I guess I was a thousand miles away.
Sing it again.
