Default WKRP in Cincinnati coming soon to DVD from FOX!

There is a sheet included with the Stacked DVD set that promotes some other 20th Century Fox DVD releases that says WKRP in Cincinnati and The Loop are coming soon! More details as they become available.

I'm hearing from my company that it will be released in Fall 2007.

CHiPS is expected to come out on DVD in the Fall of 2007, and Technicolor gets to duplicate it. There should be an announcement soon.

I can't give too much info on this other announcement, but The Sopranos is also rumored to be released on HD-DVD and the Blu Ray format sometime in the future as well, along with a few more newer shows.

First the resurrection of HD and LAS, and now this! I didn't want to say this before in fear of a jinx, but 2007 looks to be a banner year for DVD! I love Fox and PHE more than ever right now!

"The Loop" was a short-lived show from the mid '06 season that I found quite entertaining actually,
but alas it was canceled (unless it was postponed for an undecided period of time).

Back on topic, Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure if I just proclaimed all of my joy just now, but just to give you a general idea...

I've been catching up with WKRP lately on YouTube (thanks to whoever's responsible for that),
and I for one am fondly remembering the show from the days when NAN aired quality entertainment...

I think this release will be an ENORMOUS success, ESPECIALLY if they play up (which I'm almost certain they will), the classic "Turkeys Away" episode!

I suppose they got releases for the music they used or perhaps did an editing job and placed generic music in its place. Either way, this is GREAT news.

WOW.

I'm really surprised. And really happy.

Just read that there will be music substitutions though.

I'll still be buying WKRP in Cincinnati on DVD even if the music is replaced. As long as the episodes are uncut, that's good enough for me!

Yeah, that sounds great, even with some of the music being replaced. I watched some episodes on TVLand when it was on there, and really liked it. I'll also have to try watching it on youtube.

So then will these be new "prints" and won't have the same generic music as the N@N prints? And hopefully less soundalikes sloppily dubbing over lines to fit the altered music. (If they can get just one episode unaltered, it better be when they get to "The Americanization of Ivan," as the altered version was a train wreck from what I heard. Since the music that would be eliminated fit the plot directly, I can see why)

I am not sure at all that I like that announcement...I AM a strong advocate against what I've called the "Music Clearance Monster," after all. Sometimes it is more subtle than others, but when it's not, it takes at least a bit away from the pure classic element of the program, often more. Which is why I feel it's worth fighting against. I would be undecided about buying the WKRP set as such, as it would imply to Fox that we don't care if the classic element is altered, we'll just take whatever it serves up. Someone else mentioned The Wonder Years, I'd hate to see a watered down version of that as well.

I think it sucks that they didn't go the route of Freaks and Geeks and pay for all the music. I know there must have been hurdles that were too great.

The worst part is, there will never be a second release of Season 1, so this is the only DVD that will ever be.

Season 1 being my favorite, I would have hoped they could have had all the original music.

There is always a chance that the future season may have no changes, but I don't see them going back to Season 1.

As far as The Americanization of Ivan goes, that is season 2.
Maybe they can salvage it.

i am getting it whether they use music substitutions or not - i'd prefer all original, but I'll take it any way I can, and hope that they try to do it justice.

personally I think that they should BOLDLY ANNOUNCE all of the music that has been replaced, and which artists refused to license the rights to include their music, so fans of the show can actively boycott them.

About Ivan...seeing as they needed the Elton John lyrics to make most of the jokes work, I'm still not so sure. We saw how it turned out the first time they tried to do without them!

Again this is a bit of a conundrum (sp?)...if we don't buy, they might think, "Hmmmm...we did something wrong here." OR they might think, "OK, no one wants a DVD set of this series, forget releasing any more seasons." If we do buy it, they might think, "OK, this series does sell and is worth releasing more of." OR..."They don't really care about how much of the original integrity is saved."
