My cousin used to be everyone's favorite. I stopped existing. Finally people are realizing that I've always been the good one. Took 18 friggin years though.

My great grandmother used to play favorites with her kids; she liked my great uncle a lot better than my grandma. Pretty lame. Come to think of it, my grandmother (other one) does the same thing. She likes my worthless scum uncle better than all her kids.

My brother and sister have always joked that I am the "favorite" of my parent's three kids.
I don't know why that is.
I guess I didn't argue with my Mom and Dad as much as they did when I was growing up.

Wow! A topic I can fully relate to!

So, my sister is from my mom's first marriage, so my mom always favors my sister. Then my mom married my dad, and they had me. Then they had a miscarriage and were told mom could never have another kid. Well, somehow they still had my brother, so my dad completely fawns all over him.

So, I've always thought I had typical middle-child syndrome, but xmas has always reillustrated this point....

We used to all sit in the living room to open gifts, but I had to sit in the corner by myself. "Big gitfs" that were supposed to be for the three kids were always things that my sister and brother picked out. When we would engage in our traditions (going to the movie xmas eve, then out to eat, then looking at xmas lights, then watch some xmas specials and read holiday books), my siblings got to choose everything.

Nowadays, however, both of my siblings have abandoned my parents and treated them very badly (basically, they were spoiled away lol), so NOW my parents realize I exist....

But I have always been consistent with treating them the same, so that's good i guess lol!

Yep, and it sucks! I have nine maternal aunts and uncles, but my aunt María, Silvia, and Tere and my older cousin, Myrna, tend to forget to invite my mom (their oldest sister) and my sister and me to the Christmas gatherings. That's one reason why this time of year is always so depressing for me. I didn't grow up in a normal family situation because my dad had such low self-esteem that he didn't allow my mom to see/visit her relatives. Somewhere along the line, these relatives don't invite us much anymore. It's like we have grown invisible to them. Not only that, but my aunt Tere had a falling out with my mom because of some stupid rumor she had about my mom from her stupid husband. Needless to say, she believes him over her OWN flesh and blood sister. That sort of segragated between some of my aunts. It makes it much more tense to be in the same gathering as my aunt Tere and her numbskill husband. pissed:

Ugh...the family drama sucks!

Everyone says I am the favorite. Particularly of my aunt and uncle. They usually give me more gifts than their children, but they are in their 20s. They still get their share of good gifts though.

I think playing favorites is something that happens in every family. It shouldn't, but it does.

True, but it's how you feel. I know you should love all your relatives the same, but every family has jerks in them you can't stand so much. I play favorites with my uncles. I have four uncles but I only consider one of them my actual uncle. He's the only member in my mom's family I'm buying a present for this year.

My mom's mother played favorites when I was growing up. She favored her twins and their kids over her other kids and grandchildren. It hurt back then, but now it doesn't matter so much.

I am laughed at and tortured every day by my brother and sister. They think I am my mother's favorite but that's not it at all. My brother and sister get yelled at because they misbehave or do something wrong. Me, it's very rare when I fight with my mom. So when they're punished and I'm not, they automatically go to "You're mom's favorite!" Which isn't true. I respect my mom and sometimes they don't. I just know when to quit, when to let things go, they don't. *Shrugs*

I agree 100% but it is a reality that every one has to deal with although it is much easier to deal with when you are the favorite.

Unless a family member is an insensitive ass, then there is really no reason to show favoritism. Favoritism is more based on inclusion or disclusion in family get-togethers, and spending more one-on-one time with one family member more than others doesn't really qualify as favoritism, in my opinion.

I don't show favoritism to anyone in particular, but I do keep in touch most with my mom's side of the family, and I treat them all equally. I probably show favoritism on my dad's side to my grandmother and aunt, because they are the only ones who really have kept in touch with me over the years and tried to pursue a relationship. The others basically ignore me. so it's not that I like them better than the others on that side of the family, but more that I am treating everyone how they treat me.

Of me and my brother, my brother has always been my dad's favorite, and my mom treats both me and my brother equally.

Depends on which part, my immediate family I would say probably a tie with my baby sister. My grandmother thinks I am the anti-christ, so no favoritism there.

I am close to my family and I seem to be one of the ones everyone talks to, but I don't know if I'd go far enough to say I am the favorite. I'm definitely not my stepmom's favorite, or my dad's.
