Okay so I just bought the "It's Honeymooners Time" record. I've seen these go for $75-$100 at local Old Hollywood type stores so after seeing the record & cover are in very good condition & much less than the stores... I bought it. (off Ebay)
My question is what did I buy lol. Where did they record this? Was it part of a show? Any information at all would be very helpful. Just so you can see here's the info it gave. Side 1, Tracks 2 and 3 were released on single Columbia (4-)40242 in 1954, track 4 on Columbia (4-)40387 in 1955. Track 5 was from Capitol W-632, Music to Change Her Mind. As for Side 2 - Track 1 was from And Awa-a-ay We Go with Jackie Gleason, Track 2 a 45 issued on RCA Victor in 1956 (and no, the song wasn't about Ralph Kramden). Track 3, I wonder if that was in there because they couldn't get the rights to Joe Piscopo's "Honeymooners Rap"? As for the rest, "The Honey-Earthers" was the original 1955 Capitol recording (Mr. Freberg later did the routine on one of his 1957 CBS Radio shows; he did Ralph while Daws Butler was Norton and June Foray was Alice), and the version of "Melancholy Serenade" was that from The Great One's 1959-60 album Opiate d'Amour, not the original 1952-53 recording. (The new version was six semitones above the old.) |
