Default A Must Read! Episode of LUCY SHOW to be included in upcoming PHE release!

THE LUCY SHOW's "Lucy Gets Caught In The Draft." will be included in the upcoming GOMER PYLE, U.S.M.C. Season One release! I'm thinking this may be a testing of the waters (unusual though it may be) for a release of an official LUCY SHOW season set! I strongly urge all LUCY SHOW fans to buy this set. If PHE sees sales from GOMER skyrocket farther than ANDY's sales, they will take notice and realize that LUCY SHOW fans are desperate for an official release!

"Lucy Gets Caught In The Draft" is one of the public domain episodes that gets included in most of the inexpensive Lucy Show DVD collections. So, I don't think many Lucy Fans will purchase the Gomer Set just for it. It would be wiser to buy the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour ("I Love Lucy - The Final Seasons: 7, 8 & 9) when it is released in March.

Yeah, I got in a PD DVD somewhere. Jim Nabors is in the last scene to replace Lucy.

I know it's in the public domain, but it is the first time any LUCY SHOW episode is coming out on a DVD OFFICIALLY. It may only be one episode, but I have a hunch Paramount is hoping for a better response to the TAGS spinoff than TAGS and will take notice and realize that people really want their LUCY fix. But if you were forced to pick between GOMER and TLDCH, pick the latter.

I think it would give a better indication to Paramount though for us to buy any possible official release from them with ANYTHING Lucy related. It's odd, but let's face it folks, we're dealing with PHE here... It's a good set, besides.

A little bit of a disappointment...

The full episode of LUCY GETS CAUGHT IN THE DRAFT will not be included on the Gomer Pyle Season One set, according to the review. Only a short clip (1:39) with Nabors' cameo will be presented, but a brief introduction from Nabors precedes it. I still encourage any fan of good classic TV to buy the set though.

I'll probably pick it up, since I really like this show.

Talking Lucy as a Marine: HAHAHAHAHAHA

That is one of my favorite episodes. I just finished watching it on a $1 DVD, since that's all I can afford, now. I hadn't seen it, unedited, since local channels cut it for added commercials. It's wonderful! But I was searching for trivia regarding the ep:
Does Lucy wear a short-haired wig, when emerging from the Marine Corps barbershop, or did she wear a wig all the rest of the time? Her beautiful red bouffant swirly-hairdo does look too perfect -maybe that was the wig.
But maybe BOTH were wigs?

Maybe the Gomer Pyle set would be worthwhile, though. I recall Jim Nabors parlaying his smash hit "The Impossible Dream" into an album of the Man of La Mancha, because I knew he actually played it in some theater, somewhere.

I could never find it, though.

Default Most people...

...who have never seen this "LUCY" episode assume that Jim Nabors (as "Gomer") has a "supporting role" in the story. No, he ONLY made an unbilled "gag" appearance at the very end. And he was able to do this because his series was shot on the same Desilu backlot as hers- it was very easy for him to take an hour off from filming his series to walk over to her soundstage to make that brief "punchline" for her episode.

As for Lucy's hair during that episode, I'd say BOTH were wigs, as that's what she was mostly wearing for public appearances at that time. It was easier for her to "slip it on" and film a "physical" scene, than to have hairdresser Irma Kusely take an tremendous amount of time to style it between scenes.

those public domain issues are very misleading making Jim Nabors seem like he was a major guest star.

And yes, they were both wigs. Lucy very rarely wore her own hair on The Lucy Show. A rare time is the first episode "Lucy Waits Up for Chris". I think when she wore the longer wigs ala "Lucy and Dean Martin", it was very becoming and she was even more youthful in appearance. Those wigs resembled Lucy's own hair in real life, rather than the trademark teased up look she wore on the show most of the time.
