Cool RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS-POST YOUR STORIES HERE

HELLO ALL. FIRST LET ME JUST GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY. I TYPE IN ALL CAPS, BUT I AM NOT SHOUTING, AND PLEASE DON'T BE OFFENDED. FOR A FURTHER EXPLANATION, GO TO "THE FACTS OF LIFE" THREAD.

OK. NOW THAT THAT'S OUT OF THE WAY. I WANT TO EXPLAIN THIS THREAD.

I HAVE BEEN ON SITCOMSONLINE FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR NOW. I PERSONALLY THINK THIS IS THE BEST SITE ON THE I-NET, AND I LOVE IT. ALTHOUGH I AM MAINLY ON THE "FACTS" BOARDS, I CHECK INTO DIFFERENT ONES, AND HAVE RECENTLY GOTTEN INTO THIS FORUM.

ONE THING I HAVE NOTICED, THAT REALLY HAS IMPRESSED ME, IS THE OVERALL KINDNESS AND RESPECT THAT IS SHOWN TOWARD OTHERS ON SITCOMSONLINE. SURE, THERE ARE ARGUEMENTS HERE AND THERE, BUT FOR SUCH A DIVERSE GROUP OF PEOPLE, I AM AMAZED AT HOW WONDERFUL PEOPLE ON HERE TREAT ONE ANOTHER.

SO...I WAS THINKING.

WHAT IF EVERYDAY, EACH OF US DO SOMETHING KIND OR GENEROUS FOR SOMEONE ELSE? IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE BIG AT ALL. MAYBE JUST WALKING AND ACTUALLY LOOKING PEOPLE IN THE EYE, AND GIVE THEM A GENUINE SMILE. HOW ABOUT ALL THE MORE SO IF THEY'RE HOMELESS? COULD YOU ACTUALLY GIVE THEM SOME CHANGE, OR IF YOU THINK THEY THEY WILL NOT USE IT WISELY, WHY NOT TAKE THEM TO MCDONALD'S OR WHEREVER, AND BUT THEM A HOT MEAL. COULD YOU TRY TO IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE HOMELESS, INSTEAD OF THINKING ALL HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE LAZY OR ALCOHOLICS OR ON DRUGS? NOW WHAT AFFECT DOES IT HAVE ON YOUR HEART WHEN YOU SEE A HOMELESS CHILD?

NOBODY LIKES TO PAY FOR TOLLS. I KNOW I DON'T! CAN YOU PUT A SMILE ON SOMEONE'S FACE BY SPENDING .40 OR .80 AND BUY THE FELLOW MOTORIST BEHIND YOU A TOLL? A SMALL PRICE TO PAY TO MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY, IF EVEN FOR A LITTLE WHILE. AND YOU KNOW THEY'RE GOING TO TELL SOMEONE, "HEY, YOU KNOW SOMEONE PAID FOR MY TOLL TODAY?" MAYBE THEY'LL PAY IT FORWARD.

HOW ABOUT LETTING SOMEONE THAT YOU WOULD NOT NORMALLY LET CUT IN FRONT OF YOU IN TRAFFIC (CUZ YOU KNOW HE'S A BONEHEAD )CUT IN FRONT OF YOU, AND THINK THERE MUST'VE BEEN A GOOD REASON WHY HE NEEDS TO GET SOMEWHERE AS FAST AS HE CAN. AFTERALL, THAT IS POSSIBLE. (OK. I THINK THIS ONE IS DOABLE FOR ME TOMORROW. I DO LIVE IN CHI-TOWN AFTERALL)

MAYBE TODAY'S THE DAY YOU DON'T SLAM THE PHONE DOWN ON THE TELEMARKETER, BUT LISTEN, AND THEN POLITELY SAY NO THANKU, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, IF NECESSARY.

THESE KINDNESSES CAN BE FOR TOTAL STRANGERS, AQUAINTANCES OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE.

THESE ARE JUST A FEW, SMALL WAYS WE CAN PUT A SMILE ON SOMEONE'S FACE. AND IF WE'RE FORTUNATE, WE'LL PUT A LITTLE WARMTH IN THEIR HEART. AND WHO KNOW'S, MAYBE THEY'LL PAY IT FORWARD TOO, AND MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, THE WORLD WILL BE A LITTLE HAPPIER BECAUSE OF THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE HERE ON SITCOMSONLINE!

SO, I WOULD LIKE FOR ANYONE WHO FEELS COMFORTABLE, TO PLEASE LET US ALL KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE DONE TO SHOW SOME KINDNESS TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING, OR PERHAPS ITS AN ANIMAL. IT CAN BE ANYTHING. AS LONG AS IT'S TRUTHFUL AND CLEAN. I'M HOPING THIS WILL BE A DAILY ROUTINE. AND PLEASE DON'T BE SHY TO SHARE YOUR STORY OR STORIES; AND BY ALL MEANS, TELL US HOW YOU FELT BY DOING YOUR GOOD DEED. MAYBE THE PERSON DIDN'T SHOW APPRECIATION, BUT YOU STILL FELT GOOD THAT YOU DID IT. YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIMIT IT TO ONE GOOD DEED, EITHER. THE SKY'S THE LIMIT. WHO SAYS YOU HAVE TO GIVE CARS AWAY OR MILLIONS TO CHARITY LIKE OPRAH? I THINK WE ALL CAN DO QUITE WELL, THANKU
WHO KNOWS? MAYBE WE'LL EVEN SURPRISE OURSELVES

PERHAPS BY SHARING YOUR STORIES, OTHERS WILL GET IDEAS ON HOW TO BE A BETTER FORCE FOR GOOD, ALSO. HEY-WE GOT A FEW COUNTRIES HERE, TOO, SO LET'S SEE HOW WE CAN AFFECT THE WORLD, ONE PERSON AT A TIME. NO GOOD DEED IS TOO SMALL. REMEMBER THAT! I PROMISE YOU!

AND I DON'T WANT THIS TO EXIST JUST AROUND THIS TIME OF YEAR. I EXPECT THIS BOARD TO BE ALIVE AND WELL ONE YEAR FROM NOW. SO, INVITE OTHERS, TOO.

ALSO, PLEASE LET US KNOW IF SOMEONE DID A KINDNESS FOR YOU TOO; AND WHO KNOWS, UNBEKNOWNST TO YOU, MAYBE IT WAS A FELLOW FRIEND FROM SITCOMSONLINE

THE END RESULT? I HOPE ALL WHO TAKE PART IN THIS "WILL FIND GREATER HAPPINESS IN GIVING THAN RECEIVING", AND TO BE ENCOURAGED BY OTHERS, AS WELL AS ENCOURAGING OTHERS, ALL THE WHILE GROWING CLOSER TO OUR SITCOMSONLINE FAMILY. I AM CONFIDENT THIS WILL ALL HAPPEN, EVEN IF WE'RE INVOLVED JUST A LITTLE. THE POINT, IS THAT WE'RE INVOLVED

SO...SEE YA ON THE BOARDS FRIDAY I LOOK FORWARD TO THE FIRST DAY OF YOUR STORIES; AND IN A YEAR FROM NOW, I KNOW I WILL SEE ALL THE GREATNESS I KNEW WAS INSIDE OF EACH OF YOU. THANK YOU FOR PAYING IT FORWARD

OK, I'LL START. SINCE IT'S COLD HERE IN CHICAGO, AND I HAVEN'T LEFT THE HOUSE YET TODAY, AND DON'T KNOW THAT I WILL, I'LL HAVE TO DO SOMETHING FOR ONE OF MY ROOMMATES. I DON'T THINK COLLECTING THE GARBAGE BAGS AND SETTING THEM BY THE DOOR FOR SOMEONE ELSE TO TAKE OUT COUNTS. SO, I THNK I'LL HAVE TO PREPARE FOR THE OUTSIDE AND DO IT MYSELF, SO NO ONE ELSE WILL HAVE TO. THERE. I FEEL GOOD...AND COLD

I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE A KINDNESS THAT HAS BEEN DONE FOR ME BY ONE OF MY FELLOW FACTS OF LIFE FANS. A BIG SHOUT OF THANKS! GOES TO GILDA. NOT ONLY HAS SHE DOWNLOADED ONE ENTIRE EPISODE FOR ME TODAY, BUT TWO! AFTER I DOWNLOAD IT, I'M GOING TO PASS IT ON AND PUT IT ON MY VIDEO THREAD, SO OTHER FACTS FANS CAN TAKE A SHARE IN IT. THIS MADE MY DAY

SEE, WE DON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING H-U-G-E. JUST DO SOMETHING TO MAKE SOMEONE ELSE FEEL BETTER, WHICH IN TURN, WILL MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER. DON'T THINK SO? POST YOUR STORY ON HERE

There is this particular homeless man I see weekly. I always give him $5 or $10 when I see him. He has this look on his face everytime that looks as if he is shocked. His voice when he tells me "Thank you and God Bless you" tells me a lot. He is very gracious and thankful for the money I give him. It hurts me to see him, knowing he must be alone.

There are many times also when I see an elderly person with groceries, I will let them go ahead of me.

That is really beautiful Irene. Good for you!!

I don't go to the grocery store often, but when I do, I must look like I work there because people constantly come up to me and ask me where things are, what does this say, etc. Most of them are elderly people, so I just figured they can't tell. But I always help everyone who asks. This one man asked me why this paper towel which are the same thing cost different amounts. I told him because one was paper towel and the other was toilet paper. He was very grateful since he needed both. Another man showed me this little piece of meat that cost 24 dollars. And we were both wondering if this was a typo or not, because if it wasn't he wouldn't pay it. I think we both had fun standing there talking to each other.

Well, thanks for including me in this thread, JO jr. I always try to be polite, I hold open doors for people, help them pick up stuff they dropped, say please and thank you, smile and say hello if I catch someone staring at me. I really don't go out of my way to be kind, but I am polite.

I so agree with you. It's the little things that touch people. I know I have had people be so nice or generous to me in more ways than one and it stays with me forever. I want to be able to give that kind of random act of kindness to someone, because you never know what kind of day they are having.

When I tip at a restaurant, I always give more than is required and also, we always give it to them rather than leave it at the table.

When we were in Arizona in September, we ate at a restaurant where a young guy was our waiter. He was here in the U.S. all alone, his family was in Costa Rica. He was a student at the university. He was so nice to me and my family. A week later, I bought a card and sent it to that restaurant and let that young man know how he touched us with his story. I received a small letter back from him thanking us for our concern and the large tip we left him.

OH, CONTRAR

FIRST, YOU'VE MADE MY WEEKEND WITH THE FACTS EPISODES! I'VE SAVED THEM AND PUT THE LINK ON THE THREAD FOR OTHERS TO ENJOY.

BESIDES, THERE ARE TOO MANY IMPOLITE PEOPLE THESE DAYS! IT'S LIKE PULLING TEETH TO GET SOMEONE TO SAY, "I'M SORRY" IF THEY BUMP INTO YOU, OR "THANK YOU", IF YOU HOLD THE DOOR OPEN.

LIKE I SAID BEFORE. EVEN IF PEOPLE ARE NOT GRATEFUL, AT LEAST YOU SHOULD FEEL GOOD THAT YOU DID A GOOD DEED, OR SAID A KIND WORD. IT'S GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH, AND QUITE POSSIBLY THEIRS

LASTLY, WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED THAT SO FAR MY FELLOW FACTS OF LIFERS ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE RESPONDED TO THIS THREAD? WELL, FRANKLY, OTHERS WHO SEE THIS CAN THINK IT'S A STUPID THREAD OR WHY BOTHER. THAT'S OK. IT'S LIKE I'VE MENTIONED OVER ON FACTS, YOU'RE SOME OF THE KINDEST PEOPLE, AND THANK YOU FOR PROVING ME RIGHT.

You know, when we were in Las Vegas, I ran into so many nice people. People were so corteous. I would think that some place like Vegas, it would be filled with rude and crude people. Wrong!

Also, I hate when I hold open a door for someone and they DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE IT with a thank you. Makes me wanna say, "Forget you then!"

I went to that Jewel yesterday and there was a person collecting money for the Salvation Army and I gave a dollar. I know, not a huge thing.

I offered to take my sister to the main post office to pick up a certified letter when I could've just gone straight home and crash and sleep. And, I was rather tired as well. It's a miracle because I am usually easily cranky towards my sister.

JO jr., I had a difficult time reading your long first post because it's in ALL caps. Makes it tiring for the eyes to read. I'm sorry. I tried to read it.
