When I first read the post I though What the HE!! you have got to be kidding but after reading the story I can see that perhaps it may be the onloy way that this kid will learn a lesson. If he already has a shoplifting problem and does not take to discipline then maybe the police showing up might scare him straight.

I am sure the police could be doing better things with their time but who knows maybe it will prove a deterrant and actually save them some trouble

i agree. she's not concerned merely about him opening a present too early; she's just trying to get help for his overall problems that probably contribute to his disobedience.

i see his mom borne him when she was 15...seems like an unplanned child, in which case it's a bit understandable why he's like that.

Well I can understand partially why the mother would be worried with a background like that, but I think that she took it to somewhat extreme measures.
