Default DVD?

Does anyone know if "Cavalcade of Stars" is available on DVD? For some reason my search engine is not working & I just need to know.
Thanks!

It's never been released on DVD. There have been some specials that have aired over the years that have shown both clips and entire shows. Jackie Gleason's Cavalacade of Characters aired on Disney a number of years ago. Paul Reiser hosted. All of Jackie's pre-Kramden characters were featured. There was also "Gleason: He's the Greatest" that aired on Showtime not long after the "Lost Episodes" ran. There were 26 shows. There were also 3 "Best of Gleason" specials that aired on Fox in 1988 and 1989. Hosts were Penny Marshall, Harry Anderson and Ed McMahon.

Oh okay . Thanks for the help! I started wondering after watching the DVD you sent me *just got it yesterday* with the CBS special..they had a few clips from the Cavalcade of Stars including the one where Art Carney makes his first apperance *I know-you know all this lol* & I was hoping they had the show out on DVD. All well.

Did you know that Art Carney played a policeman in the first Dumont show of the Honeymooners? It was about 1951. He didn't become Norton until later.

Yes, I saw that one too! When he gets hit with the flour . I'd love to have that episode..can't really stomach Pert Kelton to much but it would be nice to see the start of it all.
BTW, I enjoyed seeing a much, much older Art Carney still holding/wearing "Norton's" hat in the CBS special LOL.

I believe someone posted recently that they were found in the attic by a relative of someone who used to work on the Gleason crew and they donated them to the Museum of TV and Radio.

IIRC, the kinescopes belonged to Cavalcade writer Snag Werris and were donated to the museum by his daughter after he passed away. One has to wonder if in 1984 (when Gleason released the Lost Episodes), Werris said, "Lost episodes? I have older shows than those!"

What do you mean when you said you can't really stomach Pert Kelton too much?

I think she means Pert Kelton was annoying as Alice. The problem is, the standard for the role was set by Audrey Meadows. When you compare the other Alices to her, there is disappointment. I also found that the way Pert Kelton gave her lines seemed too scripted. Audrey always seemed a natural in the role.

Yep, that's just what I meant by what I said. Pert Kelton seemed to over rehearsed not to mention the voice..she sounded like she was pinching her nose together while talking (kind of like a high pitched Fran from "The Nanny"). I also thought she looked to old for "Ralph."

I agree 100%, there can only be one Alice and that's the late great Audrey Meadows. Pert Keaton, didn't seem to fit that role.
