Grown daughter is right.
Florida calls Thelma her "Grown daughter", but won't let her make her own decisions. Thelma was a legal adult. She didn't need Florida's permission to marry Ibe.................. (JJ said, 'So you're gonna let Thelma marry IBE? Florida said, 'Hell no!") Um, legal agults don't need thier parents permission to marry.

What I think Florida was saying that she wasn't giving her blessing for Thelma to marry Ibe. Didn't mean she was going to stop Thelma from marrying him. She even said she wasn't going to the celebration dinner. Families usually give their blessing when a daughter wants to get married.

Remember, Thelma also asked her mother's permission to marry Keith. It was important for Thelma to have her mother's blessing.
