And get excited over it! He was a dud and didn't like to party. Well, I guess the writers wrote some fun in for him. But, I wish they would have showed the scene at the Stevenson's party. I wanted to see who were all these "interesting" people they talked about.

I agree, it was weird that Roper who hated parties, all of a sudden was dying to go to a party.

They probably thought "Well seeing how it's Christmas, Roper should be festive." He probably likes to cut loose after dealing with complaints from tenants, the rest of the year.

Well, I wouldn't exactly say, "cut loose," but he probably isn't as boring as we make him out to be; nothing wrong with going to a party at another person's house, where there's free food and drink to top it off. Not to mention that Helen would be happy, and would likely be too tired after the party to want him (Stanley) to, erm, put up a shelf. (To use Stanley's expression.)

Or at least he'd have a good excuse for being too tired to put up a shelf.

Just because we don't see Stanley being a party animal, and just because he doesn't like his tenants (i.e. other people) having parties in his apartment building, doesn't mean he's all that opposed to parties. Wasn't he in a few parties in The Ropers as well?
