Post Archie Alone - What do you think of this episode?

What do you think of this episode of ABP?
I thought it was a very sad episode. I wish Jean Stapelton would of stayed on even if it was only part time.
The reason CBS killed her off is because no one could replace her. Also, it would be hard to explain her absence in the episodes like in the first season.
I noticed that the WPSG airings had the first scene edited out when Archie wakes Stephanie for school. The rest of the episode was the same as the CBS airing as far as i can tell. Did anyone catch if any other scenes were cut out. Im glad they didnt edit the bedroom slipper scene out. I wish all syndicated shows would be shown full length. Theres too many commercials the way it is...

I thought it was too depressing. They should have had Jean at least do an exit on the show.

I think it was one of the best Archie Bunker's Place episodes of all time. I thought Archie's character really came out in that episode during the slipper scene. Although it was kinda sad, I thought it was the best directed and produced episode of all time. Carroll O'Conner won a Peabody award for his performance.
I wish NAN would show the 2-part series.

I agree that NAN show air it was well. heck they should package this along with All in the Family since this is a continuation. When I say depressing, it's almost like it you're there and you can feel what Archie and Stephanie go through as far as Edith's Death is concerned.

Thumbs up

These are just my ideas,I dont claim to be a writer or better than anyone else and I'll be the first to tell you that what Im about to typr may sound preposterous but this is how I believe they could have handled Jeans departure/Ediths death: If they had ample warning that Jean would be leaving the show they could have ran an angle where Edith was slowly becoming a little whippier. They could have done this over the course of several episodes with the payoff being Archie coming to the realization that Edith has been stricken with Alzheimers disease or some other mental affliction.Archie, mike, gloria are then faced with the fact that edith has to be put into a home.Jeans portrayal of a mentally confused woman would be hilarious right up to the time she checks into the boobie hatch. Now this will explain her not being featured on Archies Place but it also leaves the door open for cameo appearances if Jean was willing ie:Visits to the nuthouse,Edith comes home for a 2 day visit. The possibilities for not only comedy but drama as well are endless. Now I know there are some problems with my idea, namely that I cant envision Archie letting Edith go to a home, and Jean would have to be willing to make a couple cameos.Well,Thank you for reading and please let me know what you think either negative or positive.Im under the influence of several beers and for all I know this could be the biggest bunch of crap anyonme has ever written.God bless you all and keep up the great work!
