Default "Ow! My Ears!"-What do YOU think?

I have been watching the Brady Bunch for over 35 years. One thing that has really bothered me the entire time is the music! Ever notice that when a Brady kid plays the radio or a record, it is a song that no kid of the '70's would ever listen to? The songs were so cheesy, out of touch and phony it is laughable. When one of the girls brought home a "groovy new record" to listen to, it sounded like an elevator music group trying to be cool.

I understand that there are copyright and licensing restrictions for using music, but at least they could have had a studio rock band playing some licks and using the right instruments and beats.

It is ironic that there was so much emphasis for this show to be "far out" and "groovy" with the bell-bottoms, bright colors, long hair and lingo, the creators totally dropped the ball when it came to the music.

Music is such an important part of a teen's life. I am surprised that none of the six spoke up and said "no way!"

I know what you mean. I guess it had to do with copyrights and so forth. My understanding is that even if you get a no name band to play a recognizable song, the $$$ must still be paid to the writers of that song.

Well Davey Jones was pretty groovy music kids that time listened to.
Plus don't forget the kids sang their own music.
I never recall the listening to The Partridge Family though.

And actually, the music was dubbed in after filming took place...the kids, while filming the scene, never heard any music. They were just bopping their heads and pretending...

But that was funny though...I think it was in "Our Son The Man" when Greg was on the phone and Jan runs in with a radio, and the kids all listen to that ridiculous music....

"Ow, My Ears" is a GREAT title for this subject!

That particular instrumental piece is played fairly frequently on TBB, sometimes as a radio song, and sometimes as background music during a transition between scenes. For some reason, it never ceases to crack me up.

I am sure Davey wouldn't minded for the Publicity...... I also wondered if the Brady Kids had any input into making up the names for some of the artists on the records and if so who chose what name..

That one with the horn riff cracks me up, especially when Bobby turns it on and starts beatng the living hell out of the drums along with it!

In "Dough Ri Me" it is mentioned in the credits that Barry and Sherwood worked together on "Till I Met You." ("Clowns Never Laughed Before...")

I know Barry played guitar at that time, are you sure when he is rehersing that song in his bedroom that his playing has been dubbed?

If everything was dubbed, what was up with the Brady Kids' tour producer Joe Seiter saying that he sang for Chris Knight but never told him when the kids sang thier songs for albums?

It wasn't practical to get good audio quality and film the scene at the same time, so the audio was recorded separately that's what is meant by it being dubbed.

That doesn't mean that the Bradys didn't actually sing, just that the audio was put in afterward, a fact that is Really obvious during the Silver Platters performance in Amateur Nite.
