Default River Phoenix

I've never seen any of Mr Phoenix's work, although I'm hoping that will change soon - I've asked for the movie Stand By Me for Christmas.

Anyway, I've read a bit about him, and his death was tragic. He was only 23 and could have done so much more.

I read something that disgusted me completely. After he died, while his body was in the funeral home, a reporter broke in, took photos of his body, and published them in a paper or magazine, or whatever he was from. That's horrible. I can't believe the lengths some people will go to. I suppose you could say that by choosing a career in the public eye, famous people need to expect, and deal with, some invasion of privacy, but some people just take it too over-the-top, and no one should have pictures of their dead body splashed across a newspaper for everyone to see. I also think I may have come across this picture when I typed his name into Yahoo images - one of the first pictures that came up was a picture of him lying down, quite stiffly, with his eyes closed, and he was pale.

I think what that reporter did was absolutely terrible. I don't think his family took any action (if they did, I didn't read about it) but surely they would have been within their rights to either sue the reporter, or the paper/magazine that the photos were published in?

River Phoenix is an amazing actor, Michelle 'Stand By Me' is my absolute favorite movie of all time and his talent was ever-present there even with his young age. I also own 'My Own Private Idaho' (haven't finished watching it yet!) and have the movie 'Dogfight' lined up on my Netflix queque.

He's truly amazing...you should watch his stuff

(Have you ever watched Jake Gyllenhaal's movies? He's my absolute favorite actor He's excellent too!)

Unfortunately, no. I'll try to find out more about them.

What do people think of the actions of the reporter? As I said, I think they were disgusting and horrible. Surely it was big enough news that he died, and in such tragic circumstances. Why did that person have to break in and get photos of his body?

I think that was disgusting, classless, and very hurtful as well. There was just no excuse for what that reporter did I have no idea why it was done (probably for the money), but it was very despicable.

You'd like Jake's movies, I think There's a movie called 'Donnie Darko' that uses the theme of time travel a bit...it's an intriguing movie.

I haven't seen all of his work, but I really liked My Own Private Idaho at the time it was out.

I bought an autographed 8X10 picture of River Phoenix from some autograph place in L.A. awhile before he overdosed. I was going to give it to a friend as a birthday present, but we had a falling out and it wasn't given. I think I bought it back in 1991 or 1992, and it has been put away in my closet ever since. I hope it's real because it has a "certificate of authencity."

Michelle, if you're reading this, I recommend watching his movie 'Dogfight'...I just watched it last night and loved it! He's such a great actor!

Do you know if you got 'Stand By Me' for Christmas? If you did, let me know what you thought of it once you watch it
