The Simpsons used to be a cool show. Season 7 was some of the best TV Ever. You had Grimey, you had 22 Short films about springfield, you had Homer's Phobia, all the greats.
But now, the simpsons is like an old, toothless dog with rabies... it needs to be put out of it's misery. Each new episode tarnishes the memory of the good old days. Every episode about leprechaun jockeys makes me forget about the greatness of Grimey just a little bit more. IMO, The Simpsons is just a bad Family Guy rip-off these days. The Leprechaun jockeys, Homer pulls up his shirt to reveal his organs underneath, and so many little things that Family Guy was using two years ago have crept into the new Simpsons episodes, and have made them suck. They've ran out of ideas, and it shows. But we should've seen this coming. I mean, didn't Troy McClure say that the Simpsons would continue until it was unprofitable? Truer words were never spoken. |

I agree with you for the most part. It seems like most of the recent episodes have a few decent gags, but by the end up the episode, it feels like they're buried under a pile of lame sight gags, an obnoxious singing number, and a ridiculous ending. However, the mediocrity of the Simpsons doesn't really bother me that much. A mediocre Simpsons is still worth watching for the plotlines alone. I'm still amazed at how seriously some people take this cartoon. Some people actually take a run of mediocre episodes personally.
To me, a show that has become unwatchable is South Park. I do consider myself to be a rather big South Park fan, but I personally have never been a fan of foul language or fart jokes, because that is hardly a brand of original comedy. Up until around the early episodes of Season 3, the show was great. Sure, there was foul language and fart jokes to entertain the 12 year olds that watched the show, but to me the show had more to it than that. The plotlines were original for the most part, and Trey and Matt were doing things that you've never seen done before on the small screen. However, sometime around the release of the movie, which I didn't really care for btw, the show just got boring and repetitive. The shock value was gone, and now Trey and Matt seem to be mistaking gross jokes and tying in the name of some random celebrity into the show for comic originality. Compared to South Park, the Simpsons has nothing to be ashamed of. |

I think the Simpsons still is one of the best shows on TV, but I agree that the quality of writing has definitely gone downhill. The thing is they do go for a lot of the cheaper scatological gags now, when a few years ago they might have only implied them, which is a lot funnier. For example on one of the most recent episodes, they had Homer in front of an audience at a trade show wired electronically to show how a computer simulates human movement. He appeard on screen as, I believe, a giant dog. Then, of course, Homer forgets to take off the wires and goes into the bathroom. They showed the dog standing at urinal, etc. Wouldn't it have been a lot funnier just to show him walking into the restroom and then show the faces of the audience watching the demonstration in horror? Its subtle differences like that between the present writing of the show and the shows from years gone by that really detract from the quality.
Another example would be the episode that was a take off on "Behind the Music". That was a brilliant concept for an episode, but turned out to only be a mediocre show. In the hands of some of the past writers it would have been ten times funnier. |

Mr.Groenning, you should have pulled the plug on The Simsons three or four years ago.
The show is now a total waste, with shows that use gross scenes and stupid jokes instead of the parody and underlying warmth that made this a hit.I also hate that this ***** show broke the long-standing Prime-Time longevity record set by the Flintstones. The Flintstones might have lost some quality during the last year or two but they never sank as low as the Simpletons-er,Simpsons did. ------------------ Richard Ranke |

I thought that the worst episode ever was the one where the Comic Book Guy sleeps with Skinner's mother. That was just the sickest thing to see those two in bed!!! Ugh!! Anyone else agree???

As much as I love The Simpsons, I must admit that it has gone downhill and probably should go off the air soon.
