This is my first posting...I'm so glad to be here!
Anyway, I was wondering if any of you remember a case about a banker in Minnesota (at least I think it was Minnesota.) He was trying to get to his car when he was abducted by a heavy-set man and forced to drive to a mountain and go hiking or something. Later the FBI found a suspect (I think the suspect's last name was Henderson) but Henderson claimed he didn't do it. This case has been stuck in my mind for a long time...do any of you know any more details? |

Welcome to the board.
I do remember that story and believe the man who was kidnapped was John Grundhofer although I'm not positive. I also remember the kidnapper was quite inept and it turned out to be quite a humorous segment since no harm came to the man.

Yes, the kidnapper was definitely inept. I believe he dropped his cheat sheet right in the parking lot. I recall as they were walking in the woods, the kidnapper had to stop several times to catch his breath. I wanna say the kidnapped victim was the head of a bank or some prestigious corporation. Aired in the early 90's I would guess. Been a while since I've seen this one, as with many others.

Is it just me, or should UM release a boxed set of botched crimes? It seems like there are a bunch of crimes that have been committed where there was some serious botchage--- the case mentioned above, and wasn't there a bank robber that botched almost every job he did?

I also know that AMW did a segment a few weeks back about some bank robbers who made some serious mistake (I forget what it was) and that their identities were easily obtained after the robbery... |

its pretty weird that Mr. Henderson -the first suspect- had been identified by the victim himself, but a witness who got a close view of the kidnapper said that he wasnt Mr Henderson.

When I saw the title 'Kidnapped Banker', that made me think of the banker from Missouri (or somewhere in that area) who was kidnapped in the middle of the night, tied to a chair and then tossed into a creek/river.......
I don't think I've seen this one though |

I don't remember the name of the poor banker, but this case always scares the crap out of me. I want to say that they thought he was still alive when they tossed him in. I can't even begin to imagine how awful that must have been... |

I think the guy tied in the chair was Dan Short.

I don't think they were talking about the Dan Short segment, although it does have some similarities. I have seen the segment, but don't remember any names.

I remember the case about the inept kidnapper. The most vivid image I have is of the guy from the bank running to a barn. I don't know if I have this part right, but I think when he got to the barn he called the bank, instead of the police or his family. I found that a little odd.
