what was wrong with carlton? he was a straight A student and went to yale. he was spoiled at times, but still.

That's what I mean, they were spoiled. I didn't think Phil and Viv were the type to allow that.

Good question, especially about Hillary.

Hillary seems to have been nothing but a goof-off her whole life. She did get into college (don't ask me how), but of course dropped out (that's one of my favorite episodes, when Will finds out about it and blackmails her). Hard to imagine that a big time attorney and a big time college professor, both very accomplished in their fields, would have allowed her to get that way. Maybe they were afraid to "compare" her to Carlton in terms of grades? Did they actually believe that Hillary tried her best in school?

Where Hillary's values came from, I don't know. Phil and Viv had acquired a lot of beautiful "things", but they were never materialistic and shallow, as Hillary was. I don't know where Hillary learned that, other than possibly from her friends.

Carlton was a straight-A student, but wasn't the coolest person with which to socialize. They obviously gave him a pass on his nerdiness in exchange for his getting perfect report cards year after year.

And the only reasin Hilary had the Tv Jobs was because of how she looked-lol Poor Hilary

well carlton is the so-called geek and the guy, of whom will and his friend jazz had always made fun of, whilst hilary, was in a way acting and sounding like a so called dumb blonde. thus she was a dumb blonde stereotype.

yeah, in a way i kind of agree with you. i mean, out of the three kids, she was ditzy but at times silly and hilarious. i did watch the episode on dvd that featured queen latifah in the first season, where hilary had to hook up with jazz- as a favour to will and queen latifah's character was dissing hilary all day- only for her to hit back. i thought it was great when she said to vanessa- queen latifah's character- 'oh and by the way, your last 5 movies, really sucked big time!'

Queen Latifa's character was named Marissa, not Vanessa.

Other than that, I guess Hillary and Carlton just became that way because they were rich.
