Default More Michael Richards news, appearing on Jesse Jackson's radio show

I know everyone's probably getting sick of all this Michael Richards stuff, but this is pretty newsworthy, so I thought I'd post it anyway.

By MEGAN REICHGOTT, Associated Press Writer

CHICAGO -
Michael Richards will appear on the Rev.
Jesse Jackson's nationally syndicated radio program to discuss his racist rant at a Los Angeles comedy club, the civil rights leader said Saturday.

Richards' participation in the "Keep Hope Alive" program is a chance to reach out and apologize to the black community, Jackson said.

"He is embarrassed," said Jackson, who spoke to Richards by telephone this week after being contacted by the actor's publicist. "I think he wants to recover from the pain he now feels and the pain he's caused others."

While he called Richards' words "hateful," "sick," and "deep-seated," Jackson said his inclusion in the radio show would be a chance for a broader discussion about black actors, writers and directors' "cultural isolation" in the entertainment industry.

"We might turn this minus into a plus," Jackson said.

Richards, who played
Jerry Seinfeld's wacky neighbor Kramer on the TV sitcom "Seinfeld," was performing at West Hollywood's Laugh Factory last week when he lashed out at hecklers with a string of racial obscenities and profane language. A cell phone videocamera captured the outburst, and the incident later appeared on TMZ.com.

Richards appeared via satellite on the "Late Show with David Letterman" on Monday, where he said the tirade was fueled by anger at being heckled, not bigotry. He also apologized to the Rev.
Al Sharpton.

Jackson said Richards apologized to him, but his "public meltdown" showed he needs psychiatric help.

"I asked him, 'Why do you hate blacks? Have you been robbed or accosted or molested in some way?'" Jackson said. "He said, 'No, I can't quite explain it.' I said, 'That's why you need to talk it out.'"

Richards' publicist, Howard Rubenstein, did not return telephone calls for comment Saturday. Rubenstein has previously said his client also wants to apologize to two men he insulted, but hasn't been able to find them.

I'm not obsessed over it at all. Infact, the only time I even think about it is when I'm posting about it here. As I said, I think for entertainment news, this is pretty newsworthy, that's why I posted it. I wouldn't worry though, it shouldn't be long before something more juicy comes along, and once it does, people will forget all about this. Or atleast we won't be posting about it as much.

You don't have to explain why you're posting anything, especially a story that's dominating the news. If anyone is sick of the story, they should just avoid those threads.

That's true, the title for the thread is pretty clear. You'd think if someone was really that tired of hearing about something, that they'd avoid it at all costs. That's what I do anyway.

Jesse Jackson is a race pimp. Ditto for Al Sharpton. I can't stand either one of them.

What is a race pimp? Anyway, why didn't he appear on the Today show to apologize face to face to the men? The fact that he believes going on the Jesse Jackson show makes up for anything shows just how much he knows about the black community...as if they are ambassadors for the African-American people and speak for them or something...

I also don't like either of them, especially Al Sharpton. That fool is so stupid, when he speaks, he makes Jesse Jackson look like a genius. LOL! I did like it when Jackson went against many of his peers, and fought to keep Terry Schiavo alive, but other than that, there's not really a whole lot I like about him.

This is as newsworthy as when Mel Gibson went on his tirade. Mind you, Mel was drunk. The bigger news was the fact that he was on the road and could have killed someone.

Had Richards been proven to be on drugs or alcohol (or both) I would give him some slack for what he did. However, he was CLEAN AND SOBER and that is scary to think that someone in the industry like him would know better, but behaved so irrationally.

Thanx for the article Brad. I don't get a chance to see the entertainment news on t.v. as much as I'd like, so any update on this matter, I get from you guys.

That's a dumb man, why doesn't he just let it go? This just makes him look more foolish.

well for the 100th time he is NOT a racist---- IF U READ what has gone on u will see he pulled the EXACT SAME RANT against hecklers a few weeks before, this time against JEWISH HECKLERS-- and he is jewish himself--- so its OBVIOUS this is just some sort of gimmick that went realllll bad--- u can see by the pattern that he is not racist, just stupid

as for being a drug addict??? where did that one come from??

but YES i think he is being foolish now, he did one stupid thing--- and now he is doing more stupid things by going on these shows to apologize 100 times over and over---- he said it once, thats enough

even mel gibson didnt have to do that much apologizing and Mel actually seems to be racist!!!! since gibson has a father who preaches extreme christian identity theories against the jews---- but mel apologized and then just let it go, and the story went away

richards needs to do the same thing as he is only making it worse by apologiziing over and over

and im not sick of the threads, im sick of the media and richards himself, keeping it going over and over and over
