I suppose Maynard.I envied his freedom of dress, and admired his good heart and his special wisdom...which was unfortunately overshadowed more and more by the so-called stupidity.
Maynard did have his own ideas about girls. He didn't want a lifelong girl friend the way Dobie did...but he did have a few good friends of the opposite gender. It took Dobie a while to realize friendship was a better foundation for marriage than romance. I have written my own biography of Dobie Gillis, which blends the TV show's Dobie with Max Schulman's stories...and ultimately shows that it took Dobie a while to realize things that Maynard always knew. |
