HBO's Bill Maher interviewed Norman Lear on his late night show. Norman talked some abt his work as a producer. But Bill kept nudging him abt his political views/stance (which I found very boring, I would rather hear him talk abt his work as a producer); Norman talked abt how politics fit in his tv shows, etc. Finally after Bill kept implying over and over something abt Norman's political views, Norman stated the following:
"I am a liberal. I am a progressive. But, what I really feel in my heart of hearts, I am a bleeding heart conservative. Yes." "You will not mess with my First Amendment." "You will not mess with my guarantees under the Constitution, my civil liberties. I am a conservative. But, does my heart bleed?" Mr. Lear goes on to describe how his heart bleeds in a liberal way. Take a look at "People For The American Way" for a reminder of how long some people have been working toward the acceptance of "the American Way", i.e. "pluralism, individuality, freedom of thought, expression and religion, a sense of community, and tolerance and compassion for others." I realize Bill loves to talk politics, and that is what his show is abt, but I found it rather dumb to have such a mega producer on your show and talk more abt his political stance than his work as a producer. |

They have repeated it twice already. I am sure they will repeat it again since there will be reruns until February 2007. It is also ON DEMAND.

Norman Lear has been a political activist for decades. Many of his shows reflect his politics. Maher's show is a political show. Every guest talks about politics. It makes sense that politics would be the main topic. If Lear wants to talk about other topics, there's always Larry King, Oprah, etc.
