Default The Chicago Cubs are making MOOOOOOOOVES!

First, they hire "Sweet" Lou Pinella

They resign Aramis Ramirez and Kerry Wood

Then they sign Mark DeRosa

and now, Alphonso Soriano!

It looks like the Cubbies are serious about winning it all this year.

Who knows, they may still have more money yet to throw at the problem.

They already have Carlos Zambrano, Kerry Wood and Marc Prior. All they need is one more pitcher to balance out their rotation.

of course wood and pryor are hall of famers

well with all the talk they get you would think they would be

im pretty certain one would need 4 more starting pitchers to make a 5 man rotation

the cubs will hit the ball, but dont forget they lost over 200 hits at leadoff, with pierre gone

i think they would rather have pierre than soriano, at the difference in money, and toss the change into getting a couple guys who can eat up some innings

Wood and Prior can never stay healthy. Cubs need more pitching. Zambrano is good, but he is inconsistent.

Soriano, Lee, A. Ramirez is good offense, though. To win the NL? Maybe...maybe not.

They definitely can win the NL. There are no dominant teams. Look at St. Louis winning the World Series. All they need is one season of Prior and Wood being healthy and productive. They probably need to find another starter and then they will be set.

Soriano could hit 50 HRs at Wrigley and steal 50 SBs.

agreed, just because they have been hurt in the past, doesn't mean they will remain hurt. They both still have an abundance of talent. Soriano is a beast, you pair him up with a healthy Derek Lee and they could hit 100 HR's between the two of them.

I seriously doubt that but they have a chance but they have a great chance at making a great playoff run

I wouldn't make that assumption so quickly. Yes, they are making moves, but the Yankees make moves every year, and can't get past the ALDS. The Knicks spend $120 million on salaries and lose almost 60 games. They overpaid for Soriano, and signed him for too long. We'll find that out within a year or two.

Sure, Soriano can hit 40+ home runs, steal 40+ bases, and drive in 100+ runs, but here is the downside. He swings at everything, he never walks due to his impatience, and he is a mediocre fielder. He has a decent arm, but his range isn't that great.

Keeping Aramis Ramirez was a good move. They'll benefit from that. If Wood and Prior stay healthy, they can make the playoffs, but saying they'll win the World Series is a bit crazy. Also, keep in mind they play in the same division as the Cardinals and Astros.
