Default An article on Little Miss Panosoffkee

I came across a recent article about Little Miss Panosoffkee. She was the young identified woman who was found murdered in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida (hence the nickname "Little Miss Panasoffkee") in 1971.

As mentioned in the article, the woman's bones were recently sent to the FBI in Washington (DC), and some DNA was extracted from them. While they are not close to identifying her, the extraction of DNA provides some hope. If the detectives should ever come across someone who is believed to have been related to "Little Miss Panasoffkee", they would use the DNA to prove or disprove that belief.

Check out the article.

Very interesting article. Thanks for posting it, Kane. It's so sad that this girl's family is still left wondering whatever happened to her. But if the officials are right about her perhaps not getting along with family members, her family must still think about her.

I find it amazing that someone hasn't come forth and identified her as one of their family members. Maybe she was a prostitute or something to that effect and was cut-off and disowned from her family. Or maybe she had no family and was killed by her pimp or maybe a John or even if she wasn't a call girl, she was probably picked up hitchhiking by a killer. This case is very mystifying.

Yes, now that it is scorching hot in Florida, it's time to come back inside away from that dang heat. Thankfully my internet access is indoors.

Thanks for sharing this. This case was one that always stuck in my memory whenever I saw it. It actually seems very hopeful that they could actually find out who she is one day. I've seen very old cases like this one on the Doe Network and the like, and it makes me sad that we may never know what happened in these cold cases, so it's nice to know that there are people actively working to try to get them solved.

If I remember correctly, this case was one of the first featured on America's Most Wanted and creeped me out as a youngster. Did UM feature this case first?

I don't remember seeing it on AMW (although it doesn't necessarily mean that the show never profiled such a case). But I know it was on UM during the 1992-93 season.

Anything's possible. I think the girl was probably a runaway, as the police speculated. Her autopsy revealed that she had been pregnant or had a D&C (abortion procedure). I'd say it's entirely possible (even likely) that she was a teenage runaway, and her pregnancy was either the cause or an effect of her running away from home. She either had an abortion (I don't think that's likely, considering it was illegal in most states at the time) or had her baby, either keeping it or giving it up for adoption. Perhaps she kept the baby and, feeling alone and scared, went to the baby's father for support. Perhaps this is what brought about her demise.

She might have been estranged from her family. Or she could have been travelling far away from home. Plus they don't really know for sure what she looked like, they're making an educated guess. Not all that difficult for me to believe.

Yeah, I could have sworn that this case was on AMW a few years before UM. It was shown on UM in '91 according to the Doe Network and I believe it was shown in '87 or '88 on AMW. I remember when I lived in Tampa and took trips north along I-75 and I would see the Lake Panasoffkee exit it would remind me of this case.

Obviously, there was a clerical error on the Doe Network. I am positive that the UM segment was first shown on NBC during the 1992-93 season.

If the case was featured on AMW, it would have been no earlier than in 1988, the year in which the series debuted.
