I don't know if this thread was already done, but, do you trade disc for disc or per hours or seasons of the tv series or movies you swap? Which do you think is more convenient to do? I myself prefer disc for disc because it is very easy to count, without all the hassles in counting every minute of hour of every shows you trade, I think others prefer that. Just a question though... Thanks.

Most folks trade disc for disc as it's much easier that way. Some of the old tape traders being used to hour for hour, still trade in that fashion. I find it easier to say "how many discs" and match up like that.Otherwise in big trades it can get hairy.

because a disc with 1 hour takes the same time as a disc with 4 hours to dupe a copy of

so 99% of time i trade for even disc amounts

of course there is a little flexibility and i try to work with people

Nods thats the basics-

ive have seen some peopel who are sticklers for per hour, per episode
and most- get annoyed with that lol.


But its a play by ear thing

If you have lets say surfside 6 on 15 discs complete, like pioneer made
and someone has 15 discs of 1 unaired pilot on each disc, the one getting the pilots might argue he isn't gettng a full run of a show
and the other might say they are all rare pilots.

Kinda have to feel it out.

I don't make a huge deal if I am getting lets say 10 discs and the guy wants 13- fine its a few more minutes-
but I also have had people ask me, can I haveyour full run of Tales form the crypt (24 discs)
for my full run of Daria (8 discs) and the answer is no.

each person has different rules, best ot just feel them out and ask

When I first started trading, it seemed like hours were the standard. But, as someone else said, for some reason, with discs, it seems like most people trade disc for disc. I'm guessing it's because in the VHS days, you ALWAYS had to spend the time & effort to create a new tape, so it wasn't so much of a big deal to make a custom one, so hours made sense. However, with DVD burners, you can dupe 3-4 hours of programming in 7-15 minutes, depending upon the speed of your burner & discs. So it's more labor intensive to make custom discs.

Talking strictly about DVD trading now, typically, it seems if you trade hour per hour, one trader may spend more on media (and therefore possibly shipping) because their shows are higher quality & therefore on more discs. But when you trade disc for disc, the financial outlay is pretty equal, but one party may receive more shows than the other one. So neither method is perfect.

My collection is kind of a mish mash, since quite often, shows I either record or transfer to VHS are on a disc with other shows. We have one of the smaller Tivo boxes & in order to get things off the Tivo before they get deleted, I'll have a Cold Case, NCIS & Shark on one disc. (ESPECIALLY this time of year, when my husband is recording 3 hour football games and 4 hour basketball games!) So I always feel badly, if someone wants all my NCIS episodes & they are scattered over a bunch of discs with other shows. So I either spend some extra time making up new discs with just the shows they want or else I'll ask them to pick some other shows from my list so I end up sending them more discs than they send me.
