HOLLYWOOD - The big-screen remake of hit 1970s TV show Dallas is in more jeopardy after losing most of its cast and the original screenplay.
When the film was first announced, stars like Jennifer Lopez, John Travolta, Luke Wilson and Shirley MacLaine were reportedly on board, but now only Travolta remains attached. Bend It Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha is currently due to direct Dallas after Legally Blonde director Robert Luketic dropped out over casting differences. The script, written by Robert Harling, was rumored to be a hard-hitting, dramatic take on the classic TV show, but it has been dumped after disappointing test screenings. According to reports, filmmakers conducted focus groups with small audiences in the Midwest, and producers decided it needed more laughs, which called for an entirely new, slapstick comedy script. The film is now being rewritten as "a show-within-a-show" comedy, which is being compared to the remake of Bewitched, starring Nicole Kidman. One source tells the New York Post's Page Six, "The script totally sucks." Shooting was originally scheduled to start this month, but none of the major roles, except Travolta as J.R. Ewing, have been cast. One insider adds, "It'll be a miracle if this film ever gets made." Those connected with the project have been told filming won't begin until January when Travolta completes shooting the big-screen version of Hairspray. |

That is just stupid what they are trying to do to this show. They ought to just leave it alone.

I don't know about making this like they did BEwtiched. I actually liked Bewitched, but I don't think that Dallas is a good fit for this type of comedy, especially bc the show is a drama and not a comedy itself!

I'd bet good money that this project never gets off the ground...

There can be only 1 J.R. And the rest of the tv cast are irreplaceable. I certainly won't want to see it butchered!

Slapstick comedy?????????? What kind of test audience was this???? Obviously not true DALLAS FANS!!!! Us Dallas fans didn't watch DALLAS for laughs...the only time the show made me laugh was when JR made a funny remark towards Cliff or one of his other enemies. I don't want this movie to end up another Dukes of Hazzard or Bewitched. All these problems means it's a sign that the movie should not be made!!!!!!! LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!

Well no offense to blacks, but Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton had no business being cast black. That is like George Jefferson cast as a white man in a movie. |

Let the movie die. It's obvious it's being made by people who don't know anything about the tv show. What about David Jacobs? Is he still involved with it? If he is he should run away fast.
